Just felt an earth tremor in North Dallas. Shook the whole house.
Anyone else feel it?
Thanks for the link, SF.
bttt
Shoot. You just reminded me. We've got one kitty outside, and she's the spookiest of the bunch. Gotta check on her. Thanks.
True dat, but hardly ever in Dallas.
Rattled my house some. Sounded like objects falling in the garage but nothing fell here at home in Carrollton.
Just checked on my two cats, both are still under the bed! They’re not cats, they’re furry chickens!
Same here, though I don't think anything fell in the garage or the house. It did get my wife up from her movie. Been a long time since we've felt any sort of tremor.
Heh. We found our scaredy cat outside. I think she already forgot about it ;-)
I was born in Ft. Ord, but I don't ever remember feeling earthquakes until we moved to SoCal. Over the decades I lived there, I got so used to tremors that most of the time I wouldn't even blink.
It's kind of different when you're no longer used to frequent earth movements. That one really got my attention.
Its been a day of a good, long soaking rain here in DFW and been a longtime coming. Wonder if rain getting into the dry ground at deeper levels has been a factor in helping to cause the earth tremor?
Son lives in Southlake, a 4 is pretty big for TX isn’t it?
Ain't that the truth. I'm a rain gutter contractor, so you know I've been praying for rain :-)
Thank goodness we finally got some (and not just for business sake). We really needed that.

I highly doubt it. It takes a gargantuan amount of force to shake a whole region like that. Far more than ground penetrating rainwater can exert. The same plate tectonics that move the west coast so much, are responsible for what we felt here tonight. There's just a lot less movement in this part of the country.
Building shook. Son came running out of his office asking if I heard it. Dog was barking at the bathroom door where husband had entered a few moments before the shake. Son and I ran in the bathroom to see if husband was okay. Thoroughly ticked off husband who thought we were making fun of him for gaining weight because I asked if he fell on the toilet when he sat on it. It didnt help that son asked if he had farted.
Sorry if that was TMI, but it was funny around here for a bit.
Now I read we really DID have an earthquake. LOL
Walnut hill and Harry Hines
Several years ago I dated a seismoligist.
Although he very often made my eyes glaze over talking about his work, he was pretty interesting. He showed me a map once of faults in the US.
As you said, there is a lot less movement here, but he assured me a bigger “bang” could definetly happen.
I’m hoping he was exaggerating. Our buildings won’t hold up.
I hope your hubby doesn't read here .. LOL
When I lived in Southern California, a tremor like this wouldn't even rate a mention. They're that common. Most folks won't even stop what they're doing, unless it's a 5 magnitude or above.
This is the first time I've felt one in the seven years I've lived here.
Your ex-boyfriend was right. One of the biggest quakes this country has ever seen, happened along the New Madrid fault, which runs up the midsection of the US. I believe it happened sometime in the 1800s (someone will post a link). Massive, massive devastation.
When (not if) that thing lets go again, it's going to be like nothing we've ever seen. It's been storing up energy for a very long time now.

There were four earthquakes December 16, 1811 2:15 a.m. and then same day at 8:15 a.m. Then January 23, 1812, 9:a.m. and February 7, 1812, 4:45 a.m.
OMG, I..really..want..to ...respond...but..I’m...laughing so hard I just can’t.
Thanks for the laugh!
(Dang, do you think that’s what he meant??? lol He was a pretty smooth talker so it sure wasn’t my...fault.)
