I like Gary Johnson a great deal but then it doesn’t matter so much what I do here in Wa state. The state will go Obama.

Well, since your state is locked-in for Obama, there's no reason for you to "maintain party loyalty."
Vote your conscience, and feel good about it! :)

In all seriousness, I ask the same question that I asked people in 2004: Why not write in George Washington? If you’re going to vote for a candidate who can’t possibly take the oath on Jan 20 instead of helping stop Obama, why not vote for the best presidential candidate there ever was?

You know, I think Calvin Cooledge* is really underrated, and I like John Adams a bit more than Washington (I greatly admire the sense of Justice that he had to have had, in order to defend the British soldiers of the Boston Massacre, not just obligatory, but with the vigor and elequence to also get them acquitted).

*Given our economic problems an administration/congress that mirrored Cooledge's tenure would go very far to doing much good.

Great, write one of them in. If you don’t, you’re just an egoist.

I already said, up-thread, that I was thinking of Johnson, Goode, or Hoefling; don't be an arse because I replied to your topic of past presidents with other options.

But wait, don’t you think George Washington, John Adamas or Calvin Coolidge would be a better president than Johnson, Goode or Hoelfling? If you’re going to vote for a person who can’t possibly become president of the United States, why vote for someone lesser? Write in John Adams and be proud that you have voted your conscience.

Why not?

Why don’t they just set it at 100.0-0.0 and call the whole thing off?

No matter who wins, our economy is headed for disaster.

If Obama wins, the media will blame the Republicans in Congress.

If Romney wins, the media will blame Romney and the Republicans in Congress.

The way I see it, it's 4 to 6 more months and then the $#!t hits the fan, regardless of who is in the White House.

Then it's every man for himself. And don't come knockin’ at my door, unless you want to get shot!

Because they're dead, obviously. {And I never said that Johnson, Goode, or Hoefling were lesser.}

Sure, they’re dead, but that means they have the exact same chance to become President on Jan 20 that Johnson, Goode and Hoelfling do. No chance.

So, if the goal is to avoid “playing a game” by withholding your vote from the Mittster and giving it to a better candidate who can’t possibly become President, then why not the best President ever, John Adams?

Write him or Coolidge in. If you don’t, you’re just stroking your own ego.

Irrelevant; the actual differentiating factor is that those that are dead cannot perform the duties required by the office.

See the above.

You sir, have shown yourself to be quite disrespectful; the sort of spoiled child who mocks when others don't accede to their every whim. I've given you reasons why it is not morally acceptable to vote for Romney and you have replied, not by addressing the issues raised, but by the same discredited "the other guy's worse" argument again-and-again.

You might have an argument if the Republican party could be counted on to hold to its stared values; however, the post that got all this debate started was my indictment of the Republican party: how it does nothing to further its stated goals. How in Chaos am I supposed to be confident in voting for a man in whom I have no confidence in to be held in-check by a party I have no confidence in?

Ah, the usual pattern is followed. I advocate what Reagan advocated (voting for the most conservative candidate who can actually win) and I’m rude, spoiled, etc.

Hey, just write your own name in. You might as well, because that’s what this whole exercise is about.

The only reason I didn't run this time around was because I'd never qualify to be President the whole four-year term; though I'd be eligible next term around.

Well, there's something wrong with applying that Regan-advice to Romney: he cannot win. {I admit that by-the-odds he has a higher chance than anyone else on the field; but have you heard his "Obama's a nice guy" routine? Honestly, to avoid dirty-politics is laudable, but this isn't such avoidance, it's John McCain's "lack of work/passion for the position because he deserves it [it's his turn]" mentality. IOW he's only there because he's part of the in-crowd.}

Hey, I already admitted to having selfish tendencies.
As for the office of President, I don't want-as-in-covet it... but I think I'd damn-well be a better President than Romney.
