In a lot of urban areas, "porch" and "balcony" are used interchangeably.

Wilkinsburg is a suburb of Pittsburgh, a very hilly area. There are places where you can commit suicide by jumping out a basement window. I kid you not.

The locals call Wilkinsburg "We'll-kill-yinz-burg" as it is not considered a very desirable area. My cousin and his wife were going to grad school at Pitt and managed to rent an apartment with about twice the space for less money just two blocks away from Braddock Street which is the eastern boundary between Pittsburgh and Wilkinsburg. Such is its reputation even in the areas of the burb considered relatively safe.
