I saw this when it was originally broadcast. Buster certainly was on of Hollywood’s greatest film makers. Done in by Paramount!

That is my all time favorite.

Well, tied to with this one, the talking mailbox:

Television was worth watching back then.

OTOH, I am geared up to call CBS’s news advertisers and boycott them as a result of them not reporting the threats and shutdowns of our universities in the USA yesterday.

Threats were made to United States citizens and their children and they won’t report it to protect BO!! Shameful.

That’s the truth- they killed his acting spirit- I beleive it was Charlie Chaplin who warned him not to sign with paramount- but he did and found out hte hard way that they would cripple his artistic prowess- unfortunately- they were more into mass produced canned scenes than they were about artistry-

Yeah, they wrecked Louise Brooks’ career, too. But, she at least, was partially responsible for that.

Also, Keaton’s wife and her family were absolutely miserable to Buster.

Yep it was a sad case to see him lose the lust for life— I saw a documentary on him and he was fairly vibrant and full of energy in the beginning, but over time and after all the dissapopintments, you could see his shoulders were more slumped, and didn’t hav e that vibrancy any more— Life was not very kind to him in some regards-

Buster had a very happy marriage with his last wife. Her name was Eleanor, I think. I have a memoir by her in which she has lots of photos of Buster looking really happy and at peace on his little farm in California.

Hi miss m - I read three books on Buster. I thought it was MGM that did not cultivate his talent. When he left Paramount he had free rein. But MGM ran things differently. He was one of many many stars. He got lost in their system. I just looked it up.

There was one with a very young Dolly Parton getting men to carry her across a parking lot with her shopping that was almost as good.

Oh! I hope I did not sound like I want to be right . LOL! But we love our Buster. He was a real innovator in comedy. I have all his feature films in DVD in storage.

I also own the best doc on him. A Hard Act to Follow by the British film historian. A 3 Tape (3Hour?) You would love it. Great stuff. Also some of the You tube stuff is not bad.

He was the major influence on American film comedy(More Than Chaplin IMHO). He worked behind the scenes for all great comedy teams on their movies. Marx brothers and Abbott and Costello. Wc fields and Red skelton. Chaplin did not do this. Imagine having Buster behind you making a comedy. LOL! what thrill that must have been. The british Doc brings that behind the scenes stuff. I highly recommend it.

A friend of mine - a character actor in Hollywood - was a great friend of Buster and his wife. Before his wife died she willed all of Buster’s photos and memorabilia to him. I don’t want to make you jealous: put I have a photo of myself wearing Buster’s pork pie hat. One of many, I suppose, but what a thrill.
