Teen opens mobile shower for grimy N.D. oil workers (he built it)
Bismark Tribune ^ | September 3, 2012 | JAMES MacPHERSON

ALEXANDER, N.D. — It took little more than a day for 18-year-old Evan Jensen to smell opportunity in North Dakota’s booming oil patch.

....The mobile venture, called Better Showers, rolled into an RV campground in the heart of the oil patch in June. A shower costs $10, with a half-price discount for residents of the RV park where the business is located. Towels and washcloths are $1 extra. The water pressure is strong, the soap is free and there is no time limit.

The business is parked along U.S. Highway 85, the busiest two-lane highway in western North Dakota, where about 100 trucks pass by every 10 minutes. The showers are open from 4 to 11 p.m., the time when most people are getting off work.

.....He passes the time between clients cleaning the facility, playing guitar and writing letters thanking friends and relatives for graduation gifts. And he contemplates other businesses.

“I brainstorm and think of what’s in demand here,” Jensen said. “I’ve got a bunch of ideas. All it takes is guts, really.”

This is a great story.
This IS a great story; thank you.. I -lol'ed- at this line: "That’s when the idea for a mobile shower hit him harder than the reek of his own B.O."

Obama is working a different angle — the one where we go down the drain.

I applaud this kid and his creativity. I am afraid, though, that it won’t be long before some Eco-Nazi realizes that there are traces oh hydrocarbons washing off these workers and flowing onto the pristine soil

Pittsburgh Showers were generally accompanied by Pittsburgh Toilets (a bowl sitting oddly out in the open in the middle of the basement near the shower).

My wife grew up in Michigan. When we bought our first house she thought this was the weirdest thing she’d ever seen.

I have a shower and a toilet in my basement.

Throw in a utility tub and a guy's essential needs are covered !     :-)

I remember seeing PUBLIC SHOWERS available years ago when my dad worked in the mining and oil industry out west back in 1954-1956.

Then they disappeared as hotels and apartments became more modern. I learned that the word “modern” in a housing advertisement meant it had an indoor toilet and bath.

Good for the kid. He has profitted from a great idea. Now that the environmental wackos know that he is wasting water because of unlimited shower duration and pressure, he will probably be taxed into bankruptcy and then stoned for all the transgressions he has made against others who didn’t have the same opportunity.

I remember seeing PUBLIC SHOWERS available years ago

Some of the old Carnegie Library buildings had these too (for mill workers too poor to have indoor plumbing)

In Pittsburgh we don’t have “show-ers” we have “shours” which rhymes with the former Stillers coach-Bill Cour

LOL Pittsburgh Showers, funny growing up with a dad that worked as an electrician at either the coal plant or refinery, we just called that daddy’s shower!

If not for the road then there would be no one passing by. If not for the oil in the ground the workers would not be there. If not for the RV Park where would he get his water from?

Sarcasam off.
