Left column of the front page mentions rationing to begin in earnest.

Here’s a bit about rationing:

http://www.ameshistoricalsociety.org/exhibits/events/rationing.htm

And here’s a radio special dealing with rationing (George Burns / Gracie Allen): http://ia601208.us.archive.org/28/items/1942OwiMileageRationingProgram/1942-12-01-SYN-Special-OWI-Mileage-Rationing-Program-Jack-Benny-Dinah-Shore-Eddie-Cantor-Burns-Allen.mp3

It is undated, but is relevant to the article.

September 1 1942:

"This poster is a painful commemoration of the fate of Polish Jewry during the first three years of the Nazi occupation.
The Hebrew text reads, "Polish Jewry Day: September 1, 1939-September 1, 1942."
No group in World War II Europe suffered as profoundly as Poland's Jews, who by their very numbers were marked by the Nazis as special targets.
From the time that the German Army first occupied Poland in September 1939, Polish Jews were systematically herded into crowded ghettos, deprived of life's essentials, and subject to summary executions.
Beginning in the spring of 1942, Polish Jews were deported to Nazi death facilities.
Of the more than 3.3 million Polish Jews alive in September 1939, three million were dead by 1945."

I don't see how the Germans have enough time to take Stalingrad and establish wintertime defensive positions along the front before the Volga and Don freeze solid.

I also thought that p1 article about workers in the German war industry receiving compulsory communal meals was very interesting. Since a state of total war existed, most every German worker would have been required to eat all their meals at work. Since the nazis didn't take too kindly to adults who were unable/unwilling to work, this would mean most of the nation ate communally. I don't think I've ever before heard mention of such situation.
