CHARLOTTE, N.C. A planned sand sculpture that was set to go in front of The Ritz-Carlton in uptown Charlotte for the Democratic National Convention is no longer being built, according to the hotel.
In a news release, organizers said the sculpture wont be built in order to ensure optimal security at that location. The sculpture was supposed to be formally revealed at an event Friday, but that has now also been cancelled.
Earlier this week, Dan Belcher with Sandtastic told NewsChannel 36 that the sculpture was to include a carving of the DNC logo, stars and strips and a message saying Welcome to Charlotte.
Ritz-Carlton officials also planned to use floodlights to display red, white and blue lights at various locations of the hotel during the DNC. The display will still go on, the hotel said, and begin at 8 p.m. Friday.

“..was to include a carving of the DNC logo, stars and strips...”
strips?
It seems the more the liberals tightened their grip, the more the sand slipped through their fingers.
When I see pictures of the Croc-upiers I always wonder if they’re the children of Deadheads.
Cut-and-pasted directly from the source! I think it's a tell.
Maybe a greenside bunker for the Chief Golfing Executive?
(11) 15 tons loads, (9) 12 ton loads.
Yes, I checked to see if it was in the original source before I mentioned it. Better fits the DNC than stripes.
Insufficient data. A 2 variable equation requires 2 separate equations to solve. Also, the assumption that the trucks were full is implied but unstated.
LOL.
However, assuming full trucks, each truck made 7 trips.
Or the 15 ton truck made 15 trips, and each 12 ton truck made 2.
or were the optics of a giant sand vagina just not what they wanted after all?
I will quote the most awesome Strat (and Airborne) brother Jimi Hendrix - “and so castles, made of the sand, fall in the sea, eventually” Kfollowed by a killer backward guitar solo.
Either that or someone pointed out that the Socialist Worker's Party statue replica probably wasn't a very good idea.
According to News14, Charlotte was awarded a $50 million federal security grant for the convention (same amount given to the RNC, meaning our tax dollars). I guess the extra security for all that sand put them over budget. Not to mention the homeless problem. Sand does have many uses... just sayin’
Among municipal workers, there is always the danger of siilicosis from chronic breathing of road sand, especially when it has been crushed fine by tires.
I think they had to send everyone over to finish the 0bama sculpture.
