In a closed-door fundraiser at the Republican National Convention, Karl Rove reportedly joked about the murder of Missouri GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin.
We should sink Todd Akin. If hes found mysteriously murdered, dont look for my whereabouts! joked Rove, according to a Businessweek report of the fundraiser.
Sheelah Kolhatkar, an editor for Bloomberg Businessweek, was invited to the event as a guest of top Republican donor who was aware she was a journalist. The invite gave her a behind-the-scenes look at the otherwise-private event.
At the event, Rove urged attendees to urge Akin to get out of the race, citing Missouris Senate race as a major obstacle to Republicans taking over the Senate.
We have five people who are interested in replacing Akin as the Senate candidate, Rove said. We dont care who the nominee is, other than get Akin out.
Rove and other top Republicans called on Akin to leave the race after his controversial comments two weeks ago on legitimate rape and his mistaken comment about how conception through rape rarely occurs.
We always say about the liberal media, "If that had been a republican who said that, they'd be strung up."
About the GOP-E and Karl Rove: "If that had been a conservative, he'd have lost his job."
This was unbelievably stupid.
What is worse is that it WAS IN THE CONTEXT OF actually getting rid of Todd Akin.
I don’t understand it. Rove, just to be honest, generally is very much in control of his tongue.
This is very, very odd.
It was at a business fundraiser and maybe he had had one too many drinks.
Akin misused the word “illegitimate” according to some.
I wonder if they think Rove misused the word “murder”?
ping
rove stole the joke. I think the original had donald young and obama.
Unbelievably stupid. If Lord forbid something were to happen to Mr. Akin, The Architect would have a whole lotta ‘splainin to do.
Truth of the matter is this....Much of the GOP Establishment would love nothing better than to be rid of all us Pro lifer/family values crowd.
Most of them share the words of Jonah Goldberg a few years ago.....
” I wish the Republican party would drop it`s pro life family values platform so that we can start winning elections again”
That`s pretty close to his exact words, I paraphrase a degree from poor memory

No lie.
The Republicans have NO MORAL AUTHORITY to criticize Democrats for murder and assassination 'jokes' any more.
We need a new political party. The other two are effing BROKEN.
Here are the five polls of record on the matter to date:

and the one statement that all seem to agree upon:
Theres clearly a disconnect on Akins candidacy between GOP leaders in Washington DC and actual GOP voters back in Missouri.
answer; I saw West and Palin on Fox.
They are onboard with the ticket.
I also saw Santorum and Ryan speak......
Last week at rhe platform hearings I also saw Schafly(A CHOICE Not An Echo) and Barton (of Beck fame), playing prominent roles.
rather balanced.
not sure if you are saying FOX is balanced because they have been anything but. They got their guy in after the attacks they did to Newt.
The numbers for FOX are down by the millions thus far and it’s no surprise to most why.
Well, no, because then they wouldn't be able to count on (at least some of) our votes.
Happiness is that even PPP with an oversampling of Democrats puts Akin tied with Claire. Rove may well finding himself kissing the butt of the toes he stamps on.
When a derogatory remark is said in jest and it becomes amplified by one leftie agency and reamplified by Politico. They aren’t simply reporting, they are advancing an agenda to hurt both targets.
You know I believe this. I do.
Rove is a maniacal sicko and I’m not surprised he’d make a comment such as that.
I disagree with people on their politics all the time, especially people on the left but there is no way at anytime any place I’d ever even think to make a joke about murdering them.
You know normal people aren’t wired that way Karl.
Goldberg`s thinking is that once they drop the pro life Christian family values platform, they will do just fine between Rep establishment and Democrat cross overs, or cross dressers whatever
He spent $5 dollars on a whiteboard so we should listen to him.
