In a closed-door fundraiser at the Republican National Convention, Karl Rove reportedly joked about the murder of Missouri GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin.
We should sink Todd Akin. If hes found mysteriously murdered, dont look for my whereabouts! joked Rove, according to a Businessweek report of the fundraiser.
Sheelah Kolhatkar, an editor for Bloomberg Businessweek, was invited to the event as a guest of top Republican donor who was aware she was a journalist. The invite gave her a behind-the-scenes look at the otherwise-private event.
At the event, Rove urged attendees to urge Akin to get out of the race, citing Missouris Senate race as a major obstacle to Republicans taking over the Senate.
We have five people who are interested in replacing Akin as the Senate candidate, Rove said. We dont care who the nominee is, other than get Akin out.
Rove and other top Republicans called on Akin to leave the race after his controversial comments two weeks ago on legitimate rape and his mistaken comment about how conception through rape rarely occurs.
Karl Rove is an asshole! WOW that felt good to say, because that’s how I feel about him. Now I read on twitter that Akin might get out of the race tomorrow, you think this threat by Rove got to him? I did not agree with what Akin said, but after seeing polls showing him with a chance to win, and now you see Rove wishing him dead, absolutely disgusting.
“Unbelievably Ignorant.”
When I hear Pudgo Rovo is against a particular Republican candidate, my default position is that it is someone I probably should support.
that’s a good list to work from
:>)
Akin can leave by Sept. 25 with an order of the court. By support, if you mean money, I will not give him any. Instead of throwing it away, I would rather put it somewhere on a seat that can be won or give it to charithy. If he beats McCasKILL, that is great, and I will be glad to say I was wrong.
He made an absolute bonehead remark and should apologize to Akin.
I’m thoroughly enjoying your novel use of LOTE to persuade moderates to vote for a social conservative. The reality is as you point out, that in political contests there is always such a comparison.
However, another reality is that LOTE up to this point has always, and I do mean always, meant that social conservatives have had to sacrifice their principles and vote for a moderate.
So, for this reason it’s noteworthy. You’ve broken new ground, here.
This takes a lot more than an apology.
Stupid Rove put the entire GOP-e in jeopardy of Akin going after this as a conspiracy to murder him.
No doubt there are some negotiations taking place as we speak.
Boneheaded? He “joked” about a candidate that he opposes being murdered under mysterious circumstances. That “joke” carries a threat whether you recognize it or not. It’s very Stalinesque.
What sort of sanction do you advocate for Karl Rove, however, assuming he doesn’t apologize? My own observation of the man says he’ll double down and get even more nasty, more shrill. He won’t apologize.
So, what should happen to Karl Rove if I’m right?
I have no use for Rove. I have no use for Bill Krystal either.
Once again Rove is shown to use very poor judgment here.
Last night Bill Krystal spent five to seven minutes dissecting ‘with prejudice’ Romney’s and the Republican’s handling of the convention.
If he would have been taking them to task on Conservative ideals that would be one thing. No, the little pecker-head was trashing them on purely Leftist arguments.
They weren’t gentle enough. They didn’t touch on his favorite Liberal policy enough. They didn’t kiss the Liberals on the ass enough. They didn’t bow to illegals enough. I’m paraphrasing here and these exact issues may not have been addressed in his summary, but the tone was this exact thing, and it was idiotic.
At a time when he wants them to have momentum and he thinks they didn’t build it, he’s out tearing them down.
I don’t support team Romney, but I do hope they prevail over Obama. I may carp about them here, and frequently have in recent days, but I’m not going out onto a nationally broadcast network and pull a skunk routine at their expense.
Krystal is all about Krystal. He doesn’t think. He just shoots his mouth off. Who cares what ditch he drives the effort off into. At least he got his barbs in.
I wish FoxNews would quit using him and Rove. They both stink up the place.
Rove’s lifetime career envolves tricking the religious right into voting for his RINO candidates. He’s been good at it.
As a result, he has contempt, even an hatred, for the ones he has successfully manipulated.
Rove is an oddball. Krystal is misguided. I must have seen a piece of a rerun of the Krystal comments. Open amnesty, Krystal and Rove agree on that, I think, is a terrible idea, if for no other reason than it gives all the financial benefits of being American and none of the costs. IOW, it’s bankrupting us.
The US should have kept Mexico when Winfield Scott conquered it. We would have fixed it by now.
we need to call for his retirement !!! NOW!!!!!!!
He is a MENACE!!!
And the sheer venom that pours out of that man when we don’t do his bidding. Vindictive as all get out. Hell hath no fury like Karl Rove scorned.
I’m doing my part. Sent two donations already. Rush said today there is only one point difference between Akin and Clare now so I’m confident he is going to pull this one out.
He will be a strong advocate for conservatism !!!
Your right! He is coming up the ladder and fast!!
If everyone will get behind him, he will send a strong message to many RINOS!
For whom does he work? If it is the party, they should can him. If it is a private company, it is up to them. If it were my company, he would be gone.
re: Akin can best be helped out at this point by donations! Please.
= = = = = = = = = = =
No. Money and time are limited commodities. I am flushing neither down the toilet. If he withdraws and is allowed to name a solid pro-life conservative, that person will get a donation. Akin can best be helped out by getting out of his echo chamber.
Rove must be reading FreeRepublic on the sly:

If Mr. Akin has the temerity to win his election, one wonders how he will be received in Washington.
He will be persona non grata among the GOP elite, but we know that already.
But he may also become a lightning rod for hard-right conservatives. I sense he will become as staunchly reliable a voice for conservatism as were Jesse Helms and Strom Thurmond.
The Missouri election may not be over jes’ yet ..
