In a closed-door fundraiser at the Republican National Convention, Karl Rove reportedly joked about the murder of Missouri GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin.
We should sink Todd Akin. If hes found mysteriously murdered, dont look for my whereabouts! joked Rove, according to a Businessweek report of the fundraiser.
Sheelah Kolhatkar, an editor for Bloomberg Businessweek, was invited to the event as a guest of top Republican donor who was aware she was a journalist. The invite gave her a behind-the-scenes look at the otherwise-private event.
At the event, Rove urged attendees to urge Akin to get out of the race, citing Missouris Senate race as a major obstacle to Republicans taking over the Senate.
We have five people who are interested in replacing Akin as the Senate candidate, Rove said. We dont care who the nominee is, other than get Akin out.
Rove and other top Republicans called on Akin to leave the race after his controversial comments two weeks ago on legitimate rape and his mistaken comment about how conception through rape rarely occurs.
This is payback because Akin didn’t vote for Rove’s “compassionate” Conservative big govt policies. So Rove doesn’t care who replaces Akin, what an idiot.
Amen to that.
I’ll bet he’s still there. We’ll see.
My prediction is that the Republican establishment will start contributing to Akin in late September if Akin is still competitive. These political pros don’t care two figs for Akin but will contribute if they think it is winnable. They will wait until the deadline passes.
“Let’s see if he is mysteriously absent from the Sunday morning talk shows????”
He was just on Lou Dobbs, on Fox Business.
We have these laws for a very good reason ~ to lock 'em up and throw away the key.
Did they discuss Akin???
I think Akin has gotten under his skin. Karl demanded and Akin was supposed to fold his cards and go home — but he didn’t and Karl is beside himself.
Even if you've done that many times in the past, you have to do it again you know.
I wanted Akin out of there to, and I wanted Romney out of there for the exact same reasons. Rove and others flipped me the bird on that one, so now we are stuck with Romney ~ it's fair to stick everybody with Akin.
Until we figure a way out of this business of 'sticking people with candidates they neither like nor want' we're going to limp along losing elections and governing authority while at the same time the drooling and cackling Democrats continue to rack up incredible national debt totals!
What I"d like to know is why Rove was so selective in his rage ~ and that's what it is, too, rage. Could it be that he recognized if he said that about a Democrat candidate he'd be in the federal lockup in Central Florida by now?
Rove makes me ill. He’s so past his time of relevance on the political scene.........and on Fox News last night, he looked frumpy, fat and odd. Take a long vacay, Rove. Get out of politics, please.
I agree.
GOP-e insiders can say anything and get away with it...
But to channel a Democrat ???
Well I support you Doug. But there is no sense wasting your time arguing with idiots. They are just using Akin as a hobby horse for their various agendas. However I think it is too late to replace Akin, therefore I believe we should let it go and support the idiot since he is the lesser evil. McCaskill needs to go
Maybe we should make Akin a FR project. Let’s get him the Senate seat.

Since the GOP-e started attacking Akin, Iver taken it personally...
I feel that the pro-life, Conservative, TEA Party groups are being attacked...
Rove must be feeling smug...
My God, how old is Schafly??? I like her a lot.....but she was gettin’ up there in the Reagan administration!
Hank
Sheer genius, turning Ye Olde GOP Bogeyman argument back upon itself.
Bravo. Yes, moderates must support Akin as the lesser of two evils because McCaskill has got to go. Much like supporting Romney as the lesser of two evils because Obama has got to go.
Nice symmetry there. Difficult to deny the parallels.
wow.
BTW, notice how Democrats can say stupid things “Stand up Chuck!” and its a local, one time story?
Akin was even leading a recent poll, meaning he isn’t going to drag down the GOP. The GOP will be dragged down by lib-leaning RINO’s intent on assaulting conservative Republicans at every chance.
THe Great One just said Rove probably said it bnecause Akin doesnt owe Rove anything...
Mark also said “We need Akin to win”
Good for you Mark...
Well EVERY single election involves the lesser of evils. Every one.
