Any experience with the Katadyn Pocket Microfilter? They claim it can filter 13,000 gallons of water and remove contaminents from even the dirtiest water. Expensive, but sounds like a good investment.
I had a minor problem with some gallon jugs of water I stored in the garage for toilet and radiator use. When I went to recycle after 6 moths, there was mold in the bottom of the containers. How do you avoid this?
I’ve used Katadyn products out hiking. They take a little work to get the water but are very effective.
The mold was probably caused by contaminants which were in the jugs before the water was added. Either that or the water wasn’t pure.
You can reduce it by sanitizing the jugs before adding water.
I have three Katadyn syphon water purifiers. Yes, they work. I think mine are 13,000 gallons each. The Big Berkey came out some years after I got the Katadyns, so I got the Berkey. The Big Berkey is better than the Katadyn. Look up the Big Berkey on the web and compare what it removes to a Katadyn. If you can, get the Berkey.

If you filled gallon jugs yourself and there was contaminate of some kind in there (like minute amounts of whatever was in there before), mold could grow.
Heat is the enemy of long term storage. I don’t store bought jugged water or any food in a hot garage.
