SANTA MONICA (CBSLA.com) — Two birds found dead in Santa Monica in the last three months have tested positive for the West Nile Virus, officials said.

The most recent bird, an American Crow, was found on July 23 in the area boundaried by Ocean Avenue, Montana Avenue and San Vicente Boulevard, KNX1070’s Pete Demetriou reports.

The first positive bird was reported on May 17, Santa Monica city officials said.

Residents are being asked that if they see dead birds to call 1-877-WNV-BIRD to have them picked up for analysis.

“Mosquitoes become infected when they first feed on birds that carry the virus, and then bite a human or animal,” city officials said in a statement.

Los Angeles County health officials warn people to look out for areas of stagnant water that can breed mosquitoes. They also recommend using mosquito repellent if you are walking in the early morning or evening hours when the insects are most active.

There have been 26 reported cases of West Nile Virus in California this year.

Great, not far from me. Just as long as it stays north of the state streets ...

Mississippi has had 85 cases confirmed and two deaths from WNV already and this is early in the season. Wear DEET!

DDT could have solved the problem. However, the racist Rachel Carson, with her obsession about pesticides, convinced the world to ban it. She is therefore responsible for the deaths of millions of people of color in tropical Africa.

Ebola, Marburg, AIDS, West Nile —

Africa: The gift that keeps on giving.

(Of course, the literally UNRESTRICTED IMMIGRATION from the Dark Continent could also be a factor.)

Yep! But eagle shells are far more important than humans.

I saw a dead crow in San Diego last week. It was laying in the gutter. It was an unusal sight. My first thought was West Nile virus, but the news said the virus was in Texas.

Those great streets :•)

I'm at Lincoln and Idaho, just out of range. Crows everywhere, though.

Time for the judicious use of DDT.

Used to live in a little court on OP next to the northeast corner, near the top of the hill. 1960.
