'American Pickers' to Pick Through Illinois

The "modern archeologists" who star in the History Channel show plan to be in Illinois in September, according to a show producer.

By Jillian Duchnowski Email the author

You know Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz—the duo on the History Channel's American Pickers? The guys who find great joy and a little adventure in treasure-hunting through rural barns and out-of-the-way shops?

They are coming to Illinois in mid-September, and producers are looking for good picking grounds. Perhaps Tinley Park is the place.

They want colorful characters who value collections and the stories behind them. Specifically, they are looking for old movie posters, unusual transistor or tabletop radios, pinball and slot machines, antique casino or gaming machines, bicycles from the 1940s or earlier, old rodeo items and early Halloween items, among other things, according to producers.

Kinda like that show except when they call an engine a motor. You’d think they would know better.

My two favorite shows: Pawn Stars and American Pickers.

“too bad the show is rigged.”

All those shows are rigged, but I still enjoy seeing the stuff they come up with.

I saw a humorous example of just how rigged the shows are on Pawn Stars last night. A guy identified as Ron came in to sell an old beat up Coke machine that he “just couldn’t do anything with”. After a brief bit of haggling, Rick bought it. Then took the machine to Rick Dale.

Now that there is American Restoration, we now know who Ron actually is. Ron Dale, Rick’s brother.

Busted.

Every show is rigged. They all have scripts. But at least these shows offer some history and mostly deliver a conservative message.

NO?!? You mean that I can't really find a priceless antique in every abandoned storage locker...

Storage wars is my favorite, for those that have never watched it, these people bid on abandoned storage lockers and every locker, even in the middle of the Ghetto, seems to contain at least one valuable antique item that they have to get appraised...as if people who can't even afford to pay their storage bill typically keep $10,000 antiques in storage....

I wonder how they will work Obama into the show.

Yeah! But they do like old Harley “Enginecycles!” My preferred term is “Mill.”

Maybe they’ll try to find “O’s” birth certificate.

Yeah, Storage Wars is also a favorite. I thought of the same thing. Why would someone not pay a $100 per month rent and then leave $3,000 worth of good behind.

Of course a lot of it could be stolen.

Kinda like that show except when they call an engine a motor.

Harlan Fengler, Chief Steward of the Indianapolis 500 in the 1960s, was arguing with a race driver (I forget who it was) about the use of the term motor for engine.

The driver told Fengler "Then why don't they call it the Indianapolis Engine Speedway?

I’m confused. So the Ron that came into the Pawn shop is the brother of Rick Dale who runs American Restorations and the Rick at the Pawn Shop, who bought the Coke machine took it to his friend Rick at American Restoration is that right?

From an online dictionary; "mo·tor   [moh-ter] Show IPA noun 1. a comparatively small and powerful engine, especially an internal-combustion engine in an automobile, motorboat, or the like.

For some reason, I have been watching "Call of the Wildman" lately.

We met Chumlee last summer while visiting "Gold and Silver Pawn Shop" in LV. Antwuan introduced him in the store....'ladies and gentleman...the next president of the United States....CHUMLEE!!!'
