Shannon Eastin will become the first female to officiate an NFL game when she works the Green Bay at San Diego preseason match Thursday night.

The regular NFL officials have been locked out by the league.

Eastin is a college referee who has worked in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (FCS division).

Think 250lb linebacker hitting her with full on force. This is serious stuff, at least for those of us who have had the sobering experience of a near lights out hit on the field. Whatever her skills in the martial arts, a brutal impact like that on a small body — with no protection — can have major medical consequences.

My brother’s mixed bowling team was named “4 Balls and 2 Splits.”

No it's only required if you want to be a "good" ref.

I suppose a woman could have ruled that Don Beebe wasn't down by contact or Tom Brady's arm wasn't going forward or Rob Lytle's forward momentum had been stopped before the ball came out just as well as a man.
