Carbonite CEO admits dropping Limbaugh hurt growth more than expected

Carbonite famously dropped Rush Limbaugh on a Saturday Night at the height of the Sandra Fluke controversy. Carbonite became the poster child for the Rush boycott movement organized by Media Matters, which coordinated the effort with so-called independent groups. …

Since that time the Stop Rush effort has imploded, with backstabbing and accusations among the participants. Limbaugh has had better numbers than ever, and the hype surrounding Mike Huckabee as a Limbaugh replacement has gone flat.

Yet what became of Carbonite?

On August 1 Carbonite released its 2d Quarter 2012 results, the first full quarter after dropping Limbaugh in March. The results shocked Wall Street, as Carbonite did not meet its growth targets, causing multiple analysts to drop the target price. The stock dropped 15% in a day.

Most important, in a conference call held on August 1, the CEO David Friend admitted that dropping Limbaugh damaged Carbonite’s growth, and is likely to do so for at least one or two more quarters. …

You beat me to it!

I was just going to say, how many libtards on the street could even tell you who Sandra Fluke is? How many could tell you who Rush is?

Case closed.

Carbonite is going to cease to exist.

They have passed the tipping point in educating potential customers on how NOT NEEDED they are. The “cloud” is not to be trusted with any personal or business data.

I predict that we are going to see a major Cloud Hacking scandal break within the next 12-18 months.

I cancelled the two accounts I had with them that week they dropped Limbaugh (and let them know why). Glad to hear it had an effect.

Trouble was, Mr Friend, that Ms Fluke was ...by her own description...indeed a sl....er...Obama voter.

Trouble is, Mr Friend, that we now would like you to shove your company up your own smelly Obama.

Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.

I burn discs and box them away. I’d go broke buying 32 or 64 usb drives for the raw and edited hd video I generate for stock use and other stuff.

There must be hundreds of discs in storage. I sometimes open a box and cull things that have no value any more or I know I have yet another copy elsewhere plus liberate the jewel cases.

I’ve started going to paper sleeves for discs in the data morgue. Jewel cases cost too much to sit doing nothing. Really important ones will rate a case.

When will people learn that actions have consequences? But, when you sell your soul to be in the in-crowd, the result is never pretty. God bless Rush Limbaugh!

"A 32 gig thumb or sd card drive goes a long way for backup, especially if you record critical data on two. I would not trust a third party not to scan my data, like gmail and the other “free” emails do."

I still don't get the idea of "cloud" backup. Not only is it not secure (nothing is), but unless you are graphic or video intensive, you can back up most of your files (even apps) on a thumb drive or disc. If that's not enough GB's, there are cheap external drives for hundreds of GB's, that you can store elsewhere or grab and run. What's the point? Most people don't even use close to the 300 GB's on their own computers.

If you're a file intensive company, then you have your own servers and back up systems. I believe it is a solution to a non-problem.

An extremely cold day in Hell, Carbonite. An extremely cold day. That is when I'd think of using your service...just like Chysler, GM, Progressive Insurance, Amazon.com, et al. I won't subsidize liberal madness.

The European Union is trying to push cloud computing in a big way; even their native businesses and population are still wary of it. Carbonite looked to me like the first vestiges of such an assault on US computing.
