I have a friend from Holland (Netherlands).. he showed me (never seen before) pictures of his grandfather (that was an SS), BUT he is really reluctant to show them because he doesn't want a bad image on his family (name)..
Ping to 102
I agree... my dad (Bless his soul) hated all Asians (not UK version.. talking ‘slant eyes’). He was a SEAL in ‘Nam.. he tried to talk me out of coming to Japan.. I was young, naive and h*rney :p (Already went through USAF and US Army).. Now, OLD and naive :p
BUT, my point being that he never trusted anyone (especially ‘Asian’)... and I almost agree (thanks to my ex-wife/Japanese)... >.<
But, 1 thing I was actually able to learn from my younger naivety is that the majority of Americans don’t see anything outside of their own fishbowl.. America is the best.. American stuff is the best.. AC/DC is American.. Depeche Mode is American.. Iron Maiden is American... bad examples, but, you get the idea.. Heck, I didn’t know AC/DC was Austrailian until I went into the military and taveled overseas... well, maybe I am a bad example >.>
:)
Darn.. did I have a point? :/
Thank you, and I agree... I think some people don’t understand the importance of pictures like this to fill in hole.. or just simple to show the situation, no matter how simple it may have been, to be in the history books... They are all part of the history.. (that we never saw, hence the importance)..
Take care, my FRiend :) (btw, glad to see I am not the only one that respects history :p)
Honestly, I can’t complain.. 1st photos out from WW II... Title of thread has nothing about SS in it.. BUT, I believe I did mention it later.. and I could have sworn I did see some SS photos (foto)(there were so many I do not have access to now :/ it’s up to him to post them).. I have no reason to doubt him with the exception that he wouldn’t know the difference.. (personally, I think he would understand it more than me...)..
Anyway, I was really irritated at a couple of the posters that were being jerks.. some of that may have ccame out in my post to you :/ apologies
You should ask him if there are any notes on the backs of any of these photos. Wouldn’t it be great to know the name of the village in that next to last picture?
Re your 102: I believe all servicemen are the same every where. The poses, the hijinks, the pride and the posturing for the folks back home could have been from the Viet Nam war. I picked some pictures off an NVA soldier that looked some of the pics I sent home to my girlfriend.
History from all perspectives is always good.
Thanks for sharing! Fantastic!
Thanks for sharing! Fantastic!
Probably not.
Not my countrymen.. I am from Texas.. this is from my friend in the Netherlands.. and I have no idea why :/
Good point, I didn’t even think about Homer >.<
He always has good historical clippings..
Sorry, I fell asleep while posting :p
Yes, I too would love more information, I hope that he does come back to the site and can fill in the blanks... and also he will be brave enough to post more..
Survival.
Looks like a TOGA PARTY.
Thank you for convincing him to allow you to post some of the pictures.
Americans are people who put Confederate war memorials all over the South, and name US Army installations after CS Army Generals ...
