La Jetée is a really remarkable film.
Terry Gilliam remade it as Twelve Monkeys with Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis, and I thought that was also good. But Chris Marker made a movie out of still photographs -- with just a single scene where a woman blinks -- and a languid French narration, and it's very powerful.

Great, unconventional filmmaker.
He was probably further to the left than anyone you will ever meet.
And when journalists wanted his biographical background he just made things up.
Anyway, wherever he is now, he's beyond all that.
Que son âme repose en paix.
