It was the night when the Queen appeared in her first movie acting role and proved herself an instant comedy hit.
Her Majesty was seen in a film alongside James Bond actor Daniel Craig before apparently parachuting into the stadium for the opening ceremony.
The recorded sequence opened at Buckingham Palace, where a tuxedo-wearing Craig as 007 was presented to the Queen by her personal footman as she was writing a letter and training her corgis Monty, Willow and Holly to roll over.

Of COURSE that was not the queen who jumped, AppyPappy.
That would NEVER be allowed.
Nevertheless, it was a person REPRESENTING the queen.
I saw a blow-up of the person representing the queen with his/her dress up under the arms and what appeared to be pantaloons on prominent display.
Even if no such picture existed (which it does), it stands to reason that the parachuting person’s dress would be over the head with underwear showing. There would be no way to prevent this.
No queen should let herself be depicted in such an undignified manner.
.
I highly recommend the first part, right up to the molten rings of steel which were an absolute tour de force.
It became more confused after that: pointless homage to the NHS wrapped in a fair piece about a famous children’s hospital, funny piece about Chariots of Fire, dumb pop-culture segment, good cauldron-lighting ceremony, clever dove section.
The Chinese did a better, more consistently good show - though the UK’s Isembard Kingdom Brunel + Olympic Ring section really SHONE.
Romney was right, they c***** this thing up. Big time.
When they showed Liz, it didnt look like her at all. Either that was a double or shes put on some weight or something is wrong to make her face so puffy.
You’re right, the opening ceremony was horrible but then most of these usually are. I kept switching over to the food channel as there was nothing else on and then gave up. Those 5 golden rings looked more like the Twelve Days of Christmas instead of the multi-colored Olympic rings. Blah, the athletes looked like they needed to be on What Not To Wear... that country with the blue plastic boots, the others who looked like they’d dressed themselves from the rag box and then that awful print of volunteers’ faces.
Well, she was wearing the same outfit. Explain THAT!!
As an unreconstructed Anglophile which has my Irish progenitors spinning in their graves, I found the opening sequences outstanding. The segment about the Industrial Revolution was a slap in the face to Barak Kardashian Osama. They did it on their own with no royal or parliamentarian support.
Unfortunately, the rest of it degenerated into an MTV or a Super Bowl halftime show.
Well, she was wearing the same outfit. Explain THAT!!

Explain exactly what you mean.
The Queen was wearing the same clothing at the palace, during the parachute jump and then in the stands during the opening ceremonies. No way to fake that, so it had to be the Queen jumping from the plane.
(you know I am joking, right?)
As an unreconstructed American, descendant of Revolutionary War patriots and no fan of monarchy in general, with English ancestry going back to the Domesday Book, I was embarrassed for the old gal and am certain that the royal family of England has taken a hit to their dignity from which they will never recover, something even goofy, addled Charles hasn’t yet managed to do.
Quite right. That was nice the part you mention. You get this ambivalent attitude even the Victorians had about how the world was changing around them. Of course the idiots at NBC stated Jerusalem was the unofficial anthem of Britain I am that will piss off the Welsh, Scots and Irish.
I only saw it up to the NHS love in, but up to that I have to say it was quite good.
What people need to consider, and I say this speaking as someone that actually opposes the concept of the monarchy, is that the monarchy has been trying very hard to improve its image.....it was a bit of fun, it wasn’t disrespectful and was actually very funny and unexpected.......it is odd to me, that war and the empire really has helped shape and define Britain through the ages, and for PC reasons this was erased from history........it was tacky to interject the NHS into it, if that defines us, then we really are in trouble....
Didn’t watch it all.....did Romney run any spots during the Ceremony? Or was it just Obama?

Um...ok.
But, as I stated previously; the queen was represented by a person in matching dress with this dress up under the arms and underwear on display all the way down to the ground in front of millions of people.
It stands to reason that the parachuting persons dress would be over the head with underwear showing. There would be no way to prevent this.
The queen was foolish let herself be depicted in such an undignified manner.

‘That being said, I thought it was disrespectful to the Queen to pretend she parachuted into the stadium.’
I am British and I and 99.99% of the UK thought it was bloody hilarious.
Isn't his a pretty sight to be representing the Queen of England??
Apparently, Drudge agrees with me:

I don’t really have any concern about he Queen. She is just a person.

I agree, I think the Queen was a lovely sport about this in helping her country celebrate.
Can’t we in America be happy for one of our closest allies? It’s their party.
The Black Hole of Calcutta was where British prisoners were held and died.
You did know that right or are you just a plastic paddy that hates the murdering brits?
