It was the night when the Queen appeared in her first movie acting role and proved herself an instant comedy hit.
Her Majesty was seen in a film alongside James Bond actor Daniel Craig before apparently parachuting into the stadium for the opening ceremony.
The recorded sequence opened at Buckingham Palace, where a tuxedo-wearing Craig as 007 was presented to the Queen by her personal footman as she was writing a letter and training her corgis Monty, Willow and Holly to roll over.

I heard about this part so I was able to watch it on YouTube. Pretty daft in a good way. I need to check out the part with Kenneth Branagh as Isambard Kingdom Brunel. I should not say this since I am not a native but I find it odd to celebrate a gov't program, the NHS.

Rats. I got the message “The uploader has not made this video available!”

I watched part of the opening ceremonies in a restaurant, and found the blurring of “Hollywood” Anglophilia with the actual event disturbingly surreal. What do popular, fictional figures from movies have to do with the Olympics? Nothing that I can tell, other than added hype.
I'm no fan of monarchy, even the truncated and almost entirely symbolic English variety. However, it does represent continuity and a certain reverence for history, a certain dignity. That all flew out the window, or rather the passenger door of an airplane, with this mock-parachuting “drop in” by the Queen of England. She should have been attended by a fleet of Elvis impersonators on her way down, imho, or perhaps intercepted in mid-flight by a magic carpet and gently wafted to earth, to appeal to the burgeoning Muslim segment.
The repeated Obama ads were disgusting as well, especially the one claiming that Obama saying “you didn't build that” to business owners is a lie.
I won't be watching again.

Most people do not live the real world. They do not understand the real world. They live in a consumerist fantasy world. Parachuting queens, Peter Pan, and Michael Phelps all kind of blend together into a heart-warming story that people enjoy.
Not healthy, in my opinion.

I liked a lot of it. That being said, I thought it was disrespectful to the Queen to pretend she parachuted into the stadium. I didn't enjoy the ridiculous story of the kids meeting because the girl dropped her cell phone. I was embarrassed for the director that he felt the need to celebrate the NHS. Just propaganda for Obamacare. I was appalled that NBC allowed Obama’s commercials during the Opening Ceremony. TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE to politicize this program!!!

I understand YouTube needs to make money but already sick of the Obama and Romney political ads. On the bright side you can skip over them after a few seconds.

I can’t be serious about what?
To: C19fan
.
Music from The ‘Exorcist’?
A bizzare celebration of Socialized Medicine
Scary villains from childrens literature
Mary Poppins singing ‘A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down’? flies in to save the day?
To top it all off; the ‘queen’ jumps from a helicopter with dress over her head and pantaloons showing?
She needs to have her head examined for consenting to this.
A queen should never submit to such indignity.
This was some wierd, bizarre sh*t!

We only saw the queen parachuting through the air from a great distance; didn’t see the dress over her head and pantaloons showing. - She was a sport to allow that. . 007 seemed very staid and intent on his mission. It was cute. (The queen (princess at the time) worked as a mechanic during WWII; so has always been out of the ordinary.)

I thought the whole opening ceremony was horrible! Usually they are awesome if not weird but this was mediocre at best. It pains me to say this but it looked like the Queen might have dementia. Huge disappointment.

"I was embarrassed for the director that he felt the need to celebrate the NHS. Just propaganda for Obamacare." From the interviews I read Boyle put the NHS in because he was angry over the cuts the Gub'ment made (and is going to make) in the NHS.

I never saw her smile. She had a sour expression on her face the whole time the camera was on her.

Seemed like a perfectly rational and understandable sentiment to me.
I thought the video integration was lame.
And Daniel Craig made an exciting Bond, but is hardly representative of the series. Give me Sean Connery any day.

Well, since you put it that way, it would be cute to see Hillary Clinton shot out of a giant cannon.
I suspect that punkin’ won’t be chunkin’ very far, but still.

My Mom suffered from dementia and that empty look and confused look just stood out to me.
To: NativeTxn
I am sure it's not dementia. I suspect she was (rightly) appalled at the disrespect she was receiving at the hands of the director. I suspect she felt she had to do the thing, but didn't have to look like she enjoyed it. I am sure she would have liked to announce the Opening of the Games, but not after the ridiculous stunt she was supposed to have done.
