Who else besides me remembers another hit show Hemsley starred in?
It was called “Amen”. He played a Deacon.
I liked that show.

As George and 'Weezy', he and Isabel Sanford had magnificent chemistry and provided lots of entertainment through the years.
We also watch the show "Amen."
RIP.

How could he be only 74? They had him playing Lionel’s father when he was only 34? He sure seemed at least 40 from his first appearances.

I remember seeing him singing and dancing on Arsinio back in about 89 or so. I remember one song in particular called "Aint That A Kick In The Head" or some such with lots of female back up singers and dancers in gold Madonna bra thingies.
He was great! I had no idea he was so talented.

His portrayal of George Jefferson, opposite Archie Bunker and in "The Jeffersons", was hilarious, real comedy.
RIP, and thanks for your service.

My father never watched or appreciated much TV. But one time I noticed him laughing to himself and saying: "Ha ha ha ... Mr. Jefferson".
Thinking about this now and then has made me even more admiring of Hemsley's talent and thankful to him for making my Dad laugh.
On another note I suppose we are due for the obituary of a third in-the-closet celebrity.

Looks like he moved back next door to Archie again (John Carroll O’Conner, died 2001)
