The Aurora, Colo., theater massacre spurred fearful consumers out west to arm themselves yesterday, with some gun shop owners reporting a massive spike in business.
The phones been ringing off the hook today, said Robert Parker, owner of Parker Arms & Gunsmithing, 17 miles from the site of the rampage. Anytime something like this happens, people are more apt to think more about wanting to protect themselves. All of those people there were just helpless.
One hour north of Aurora at Rocky Mountain Shooter Supply, gun sales were up by about 50 percent, manager Bill Cates said.
Theyre just tired of being victims, he said, adding that more women than usual were purchasing guns. They just want to be able to protect themselves if theyre in a situation like that.
Aurora was ground zero for a nationwide run on ammunition in 2009, following fears that the Obama administration would hike taxes on bullets or tighten gun laws, according to a CNN profile at the time.
But Thomas Nolan, a former Boston police officer and former associate professor of criminal justice at Boston University, said the route to safety lies in tighter control of guns.
Many people would agree, this kind of violence doesnt take place in other parts of the world as it does in the United States, because the weapons arent available, he said.

Sure it fits, better get them while you still can
Thomas Nolan is an idiot. He should be stripped of any teaching credentials he possesses. He is a danger to his students.
Nolan is an idiot. Last year in Norway a shooter killed EIGHTY people. I guess that does not fit his narrative.
I've never heard of a murder at a shooting range where guns are plentiful. Here in Texas, we do have our share of guns used for killing certain people but those are mostly from the good guys taking down the thugs. At my church, everyone I know (notably including the preacher) is armed and quite a few bring them to the services. A thug wouldn't know what hit him if he tried to make off with the collection plate.
Guns aren’t going to help you if you go into places that don’t allow patrons to carry them. Like this theater chain.
Don’t take your family to places that don’t allow CCW but have “fatal funnels”.
True, but Colorado law allows CCW permit holders to carry anywhere it is otherwise legal. As far as I can tell, CO does not have any accommodation for property owners who don't want the CCW's on their property. If you can keep it concealed, you can carry it there in CO. (No Fed buildings, or state offices, etc.)
I'm not a lawyer, but I did read the Wikipedia page today.
“..Thomas Nolan, a former Boston police officer” at least shot nobody’s dog while a BU faculty member.
When America wants a LEO’s opinion, they will issue one to him.
Personally I’d just skip these places as they are known gun free zones.
We’ll never stop this “massacre” crap until most Americans are armed and carrying. Americans are going to have to take a page out of the illegal alien playbook and start doing the job the “judges” and “courts” don’t want to do.
And which parts of the world would that be Jughead?
I had to go grab a gun that I had on layaway. WOO!
Anytime something like this happens, people are more apt to think more about wanting to protect themselves. They're apt to think that... they're also apt to think that the gun grabbers are going to use this incident to prohibit future gun sales so you better buy now or never.
They will if you DADT!
I feel fairly sure this attack would have been little more than a tragic footnote if it had occurred here in Florida.
Just another tragic incident that could have been avoided by pirating movies ;o)

These are just the few I could gather with 5 minutes research. There are many more.
So, he’s either ignorant, or he’s willfully lying to advance a political agenda. I’m guessing the latter.
I’m skeptical of this story. My wife was at a gun range in Denver for about three hours this afternoon. It was empty. Normally, Friday afternoons are pretty full.
CO Rev Statutes section 18-12-214 says: “(5) Nothing in this part 2 [regarding concealed carry] shall be construed to limit, restrict, or prohibit in any manner the existing rights of a private property owner, private tenant, private employer, or private business entity.”
This means private property owners can keep guns off their property, as they should have the right to do.
All the people calling for gun bans scare people into rushing out to buy a firearm while they can. The gun grabbers accomplish the exact opposite of what they want, except with gullible politicians looking to score sanctimonious brownie points. Calling John McCain...!
And I would like to think that a few conscientious people realize that they should take responsibility for their own security, and that of their families.
