The mayor of Boston is vowing to block Chick-fil-A from opening a restaurant in the city after the company's president spoke out publicly against gay marriage.
Mayor Thomas Menino told the Boston Herald on Thursday that he doesn't want a business in the city "that discriminates against a population."
Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy told the Baptist Press this week that his privately owned company is "guilty as charged" in support of what he called the biblical definition of the family.
The fast-food chicken sandwich chain later said that it strives to "treat every person with honor, dignity and respect -- regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender."
Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A has more than 1,600 stores nationwide but just two in Massachusetts, both located in suburban malls.

Chick is closed on Sundays, God bless them.
not sure that Chick really wants anything to do with Boston, matter of fact.
Someone should fax a copy of the First Amendment over to the mayor’s office. Pronto!
The first Amendment only applies when libs want it to.
As will I. Unfortunately, the only Chick-Fil-A in Washington State is up in Bellingham. Road trip!
Looks like a clear-cut legal action for religious discrimination to me.
I ate at one for the first time today. I’m not big on chicken sandwiches, but these were good. I took my 3 workers and bought their lunch as well. They all liked it.
We were talking about why I took them there and one of my workers is a lay preacher at his church, he’s going to encourage the congregation to eat at Chick-fil-A to support a Christian company.
“I will be eating at the next Chick-fil-A I see.”
Good idea! I love their chicken sandwich with some of their Polynesian Sauce on it. Great!
I wonder if Chick-fil-A is a publicly traded company? Hmmm. Got to check it out!
Oh no! Not being able to open a restaurant in Boston will surely hurt Chick-fil-A’s billion-dollar sales. What will they do now?

The Mayor wants a Man-fil-A.
I don’t normally eat fast food but I love CAF Waffle fries...
And we’ll kick out Boston Market, so there!
And maybe Liberal Locost should not move South, complain about the backward culture, (and don't think they make fun of other parts of the country, I know they do, I have heard it with my own ears) and remake it in their Statist image as decry the Taxes of Taxachuetts they left.
Make your own dang chicken Bostonians....
And while your at it, stay the heck out of New Hampshire, you ruined that too !!!!
Mumbles Menino must be getting on Baanee Fwanks payroll.
This should constitute slander.
I believe Chick-fil-A said yesterday that they have a non-discrimination policy on sexual orientation. They simply believe marriage should be between a man and a woman.
They don’t treat gay customers any differently, and certainly don’t discriminate against them.
For the Mayor to accuse them of “discrimination” for exercising free speech rights is disturbing.
Unless you agree with Manino, your biz ain’t welcome in Beantown!
They don’t need to go to Boston. There are 2 of them in my area and they are packed all the time. They could open up more here (outside of Houston) and they would do very well.
I checked out Chick-Fil-A Corporation. Not publicly traded. Too bad... I’d buy some shares!
We have ‘em all over Florida! Come on down, and while you’re at it, stop by Disney, they need the business! LOL
The funny thing is the owner never mentioned gay marriage. Check out his quote. The media is trying to cause his business to fail because of the closed on Sunday standard they adhere to.
