Film festivals like Tribeca, Sundance and Cannes are widely known for debuting films that generate buzz, some of which even go on to become recognized with prized industry awards. Internet viral cat videos don't quite fall into that spectrum, but a newly debuting event is hoping to make sure that they do.
That's right: there is going to be a new film festival entirely dedicated to everyone's favorite workplace time suck, the magic that is viral cat videos.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis is all set to host the first ever film festival dedicated to feline entertainment. Organizer Katie Czarniecki Hill will solicit the local public for nominations for their favorite cat videos. She'll then view them, decide which will be deemed winners, and display them on a big screen on the festival's date, August 30. The festival will last approximately an hour and seek to shower all its attendants with an overabundance of adorable cats.
Viewing these types of viral videos is usually done alone, but Hill is seeking to make it a social act that transcends the online medium in which the video is presented.

I'm not posting this article to give everyone an excuse to post their
favorite cat videos. No way. Uh uh.

As well they should, I’m surprised it took this long.

As well they SHOULD! I’d much rather laugh a hearty chuckle over some cute or silly thing a kitty in a video does (besides watching the crazy laughable antics of my own 2 kitties) than read endless ditto-ditto-ditto about all the failures of Obama and the latest outrageous/dumb/dangerous/illegal thing he did. I GET it, Obama is a jerk who wormed his way into the Presidency.
I didn’t vote for him the first time, and I won’t the second time. I helped elect Congressman Bob Turner (R!!!) in my Queens, NY district. It’s not like I don’t passionately care about my country and about its government; it’s that I am on overload and need some “cute time”!
Now, where is the next cute cat video?

Also, may I say thank you to Free Republic, which first made me aware of the Cheezburger site a few years ago during my lurking days!
