Dads: If You Don’t Want Your Daughter to Date Charlie Sheen,
Townhall.com ^ | July 1, 2012 | Doug Giles

Here are my 10 Commandments for my daughter’s potential boyfriends.

Please facebook, email and tweet this list and my accompanying new video to dads who do not want their daughters to ever date or marry Lil Wayne, Charlie Sheen, Beavis or Butthead.

Commandment I. Thou shall understand that your presence doesn't make me happy. And know this: I've got a PI doing a background check on you at this moment.

Commandment II. Thou had better have a life. I have worked my butt off providing a good life for my daughter; therefore, you better have one, Spanky.

Commandment III. Thou shall not touch my daughter. If you do, I'll smash your hands and your mommy will have to help you gel your Justin Bieber haircut.

Commandment IV. Thou shall look me in the eye and shake my hand like a man. And turn off your damn cell phone.

Commandment V. Thou shall understand that you are a boy talking to a man. Do not gush around me or attempt to read me an entry from your journal. I'm not Oprah. I am a Neanderthal.

Commandment VI. Thou shall know that our family is old school. Do not even think about approaching me with liberal, hippie, agnostic, atheistic, anti-American or tree-humping bull crap.

Commandment VII. Thou shall know that I like cool and expensive gifts. You'd be shrewd to approach me like the three wise men did Baby Jesus, namely with gold, frankincense and myrrh.

Commandment VIII. Thou shall understand that if you're dumb enough to tell me a dirty joke, I'm comfortable enough with kicking your ass.

Commandment IX. Thou shall keep your word. If you say you're going to do something, then I expect you to do it.

Commandment X. Thou shall memorize commandments I - IX. Yep, your best bet, home slice, is to both memorize and practice these commandments because I am Dad Almighty!

Parents, if you’d like an awesome full-color, punk-scaring poster of my 10 Commandments for Your Daughter’s Potential Boyfriends to grace your entryway, man cave or office, click here. Be afraid, scrubs. Be afraid.

Try to help your daughter pick her female friends, and don’t worry about the male friends so much.

Your daughter is going to do what her friends do.

If they date crap, you can pretty much know that they will fix your daughter up with a piece of crap also.

I still think equating “justice” with “anal sex” is very strange. I wish for hanging or a firing squad for egregious criminals.

Dear Tax Chick,

We took a very different approach in my house. My daughter sees, by example, how my husband treats me: with love, tenderness, loyalty, honor, and respect. I, as her mother, instruct her on how a woman should be treated.

From a very early age, she has learned how a loving man should behave. She has learned that if he says ugly things to her, treats her disrepectfully, pushes her for sex, he's not for her. She also knows exactly what to do if a man ever raises a hand to her: kick him to the curb. She has also learned to be upfront, to not toy with the emotions of those she loves.

I have often praised my husband's judgment infront of her, and informed her to trust Dad's opinion.

To ensure my sons are not part of the problem, they have received similar instructions.

I didn't have to beat my children over the head with rules: I used a lot of examples as (forgive the term) "teaching moments." It's easy nowadays to point of the foolishness and misery that comes from sex outside of marriage and God's law; they see first hand the love and joy that comes from my husband and I building a life together inside of God's law.

And if that doesn't work, we have an arsenal, a plot of land, and shovels as a back up.

It's always the guy's fault. My girl is an angel. Keep pushing the men-are-evil meme..

Sounds like the voice of experience. . .and I can concur. It was my daughter who decided to move in with her boyfriend at age 19. . .I was ready to kill him. . .until I finally met him. I realized a couple of things. . .first, I liked him right away. . .he was humble, sincere, he looked me in the eye. Secondly, I could see that this was my daughter's decision. . .she was driving this car and he was going along. .because he loved my daughter. . hell, I started to feel sorry for the guy. . .he had a tiger by the tail. .did he know it? Poor guy. ..anyway. . three years later, they are still together. She just stayed with him until she could get her own place, so they aren't technically "shacking up". . .(so throw Dad a bone. .I'll take it)

The bottom line is these two kids actually are committed to each other. . and, yes, I 'm praying for the ring.

That is certainly true. I make a point of showing my children examples of how what my husband and I (and our faith) tell them is wrong is also stupid and productive of bad outcomes.

I take a special pleasure in ruining popular songs for my daughters by providing real-world translations:
"Chasing the drama relationship" equals "38 and still single."
He means, "I'm a loser who will never commit, but have sex with me anyway."
"She sees 'sparks fly,' you see 'dishes, laundry, and diapers.' "
"No ring? She gets pregnant and he walks away. Now that's true love!"

It sure is on the mind of some FReepers who want prison time to include that recreation for the scummy perps which are frequently the topic of discussion around here.

As the mom of three daughters, I set the bar high....."Find a husband who treats you like your dad treats me...and you".

A high threshhold to be sure - MGD is a jewel in every way, and by his actions he demonstrated the attributes that they should seek.

Now daughter #1 will be getting married this summer - the young man asked US for permission to marry her before he popped the question, and we were more than happy to give our consent. He's a keeper.

I think Charlie Sheen is a truly great entertainer. As a person? I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him. Same with Elvis, Michael Jackson, Fred Astaire

We did the same, Writer - and it's worked out beautifully.

We have an excellent relationship with our three daughters and will be welcoming a wonderful son into the family when our oldest marries this summer.

I knew a girl who took a suitor to meet her father.
Her father was a teacher.
She took the boy to his class.
He trains SWAT teams.
And he was dressed in full battle gear.
And carrying multiple machine guns.
Seems the boy lost interest.

Oh, for those who know of him, the father is Massad Ayoob.

the girls always told prospective boyfriends the rules before they ever came to the house which was MANDATORY before they could date any of them AND when picking them up and bringing them home

all i ever told them one on one was, You do something you KNOW you shouldn't and i find out, nobody will never find you...

Here are ten I think are good:

Facebook only if you have the password and are “friended” with full access.

No video or cam talking thru internet.

No twitter.

No rap music or Gaga.

No black fingernails/goth/punk/extreme look.

Must play at least one sport a year.

No computer or TV allowed in bedroom.

No short shorts or tummy revealing shirts.

No R rated movies.

1 hour of internet use for each 1 hour of housecleaning.

Doug Giles lost me with his advocacy of prison rape for the junior-high boys involved in the bus-monitor bullying episode.

Not having read his opinions on this subject, I did a search under "Doug Giles bus monitor". The reference I found to prison rape was "these little devils would have justly been hauled to juvey court facing a five-year lockdown and jail sex." I could be wrong, but I don't read that as advocacy of the practice, merely a statement that it is a fact of life.

To me, the fact that he used “justly” to describe that outcome indicates approval of five years in prison plus anal rape for pre-teens as a punishment for emotional cruelty.

He didn’t have to bring up sex at all in order to make a point about applying significant consequences for bad behavior: he chose to. I will not further speculate as to why he made that choice.
