UFO researcher Robert Hastings recently addressed The Society for Scientific Exploration's 31st Annual Conference here. His presentation, "Unexplained Aerial Incursions at Nuclear Weapons Sites Demand a Renewed Scientific Interest in the UFO Phenomenon," examined declassified U.S. government documents confirming ongoing UFO activity at American nukes-related facilities since 1948.
In September 2010, Hastings' "UFOs and Nukes" press conference drew worldwide media coverage when seven U.S. Air Force veterans revealed dramatic incidents during which several ICBMs mysteriously malfunctioned just as disc-shaped craft were observed hovering near them.
CNN streamed the press event live:

Following the conference in Boulder, Hastings said:
"Among the 130 veterans I have interviewed are nuclear missile launch officers who report UFOs monitoring and even disabling their weapons. To dismiss these accounts as mere fantasies or fabrications is to suggest that those who held the fate of the entire planet in their hands during the Cold War were dangerously demented or otherwise untrustworthy. Surely, this was not the case. Similar incidents have been revealed by Soviet military veterans.

I often use the “Space Aliens committed 911” against truthers to try and out-kook them. Blaming things on Space Aliens is a convenient way of not having to explain a lack of evidence.
The "Pepp Aeroshell," shown here at the White Sands Missile Range park, was used to test the parachute that NASA planned to use to "soft land" the Viking spacecraft on Mars.
It and its predecessor test craft probably explain about 99% of the "flying saucer" sightings in the western U.S. in the 1950s and 1960s.
As an aside, you’ve got to admire that guy for his “do.” It takes a lot of courage or gumption or something to be televised with that pile of hair.
I have to admit that I have wondered a few times if the real reason we (humans) haven’t blow each other (ourselves) up with nuclear weapons might just be...that we weren’t allowed to.
Considering that the UFO craze began in the 50s as the US was testing all kinds of secret rockets and aircraft, I think a huge number of ‘sightings’ can be explained in such a manner.
40 days to touchdown on Mars. Seems like an overcomplicated landing procedure but I understand why. I’m a little surprised this one isn’t getting more press.

I think we spend enough money on stupid stuff already!
You’re not suggesting that studying shrimp on treadmills is stupid, are you?;-)
oh yeah, anyone can tell that’s a weather balloon...
Henceforth, I will have a hard time believing these sightings are anything other than drones from some government somewhere. I don’t know how long ago the black ops around the world produced the first drones but I am quite sure it was long before I heard of them.

I would rather funnel the money used to fight global warming to UFO studies. If we find intelligent life they can help us fix the problem. If we don’t find intelligent life it would be money better spent.
I am continuously surprised that people have failed to make the obvious connection between UFO’s and Bigfoot.
WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!
Good point. We could split it between UFO’s, ghosts, big foot and Nellie.
Not as stupid as studying alien invasions from the outer reaches of space! But Stupid, YES!
