From the look of Tyler's posture in the video, I'd say he rubbed the wheel in front of him and that's what caused him to lean right. It may have been the fault of the rider in front moving left and Tyler not watching his wheel. --A bad thing in close quarters.

22k from the finish and another crash. Tyler down again ...Tom Danielson out. I hate seeing this many wrecks.

Just watched the slow-mo replay of the crash (we were watching the semis at Wimbledon) and it looks like what happened is that Farrar was trying to move up through an open space when Petacchi moved right. Farrar had to either put on his brakes or lean right (into Veelers) so he leaned. Veelers stayed with his lead out train and moved forward leaving Farrar with nothing to lean on.
The most incredible thing about the crash was Greipel’s escape. He actually pushed off of Farrar, released both his pedals, and somehow managed to not just remain upright, but win the stage. Phenomenal!

Thanks for all the pings! We've been following the TdF as best we can, in bits and pieces. (been traveling the past few days)

Apparently Sagan was either a gorilla or the Incredible Hulk today, LOL. His little "dance" after his stage win the other day was apparently Sagan's "Forrest Gump dance", so he said. ;-D

Farrar going after Tom Feelers after yesterday’s stage was absurd. Honestly watching the video from above, it looked like the crash was Farrar’s fault. He was clearly leaning into Feelers. I think he is just frustrated with his Tour so far. He has fallen 4 times now.I like Tyler and would like to see him get a stage win but this kind of behavior will not win him any friends.

Bob Roll pretty much agreed with your comment above in his commentary this morning.

I've been a big Tyler Farrar fan since he first appeared in the TdF. Disappointing Tour for Tyler so far this year unfortunately...

My bet is on the old man in yellow trying to cross thru the peleton that caused the crash today.

Yes, Tyler was leaning into Feelers, that's what happens when you rub the wheel in front of you. If you rub the left of the wheel in front of you the inertia of your movement will stop and you will be leaning to the right. But, your natural tendency to steer to the right to correct can't happen because you are stuck on the left of the wheel ahead. Then, you end up leaning over to the right with no way to correct or get straight.

If you are riding with just one other person you fall over on your right side. If you are in a pack you fall on the person to your right - I'm surprised Bob Roll never experienced this.

Tour de France 2012

Stage 07 - Tomblaine > > > La Planche des Belles Filles (199km)

Saturday, July 7, 2012

Using 'La Planche' as a launch pad

The first mountain stage of the Tour will be a complete contrast to the opening week and is was always going to be a different sort of rider who excels on the road to La Planche des Belles Filles. The peloton has been ravaged by crashes in recent days, especially the carnage that wiped out so many riders on the road to Metz. Still, some of the big pre-race favorites all survived the chaos and Wiggins, Evans, Menchov and Nibali are all still in contention for the podiumin Paris. Still many may have to accept that a win could now be out of reach. That might be the case for Fränk Schleck, Alejandro Valverde, Robert Gesink and Michele Scarponi – who were all casualties of the crash near the end of stage six. They now only have one solution to put themselves back in contention: attack!

Fabian Cancellara recognizes that his time in the yellow jersey is due to come to an end but some of the potential winners of stage seven are loathe to inherit the leader's color too soon. Evans timed his race into yellow perfectly last year, taking the lead with only one day to race. And he'll be satisfied if he manages it that way again this year. This is the stage when we're going to see who is able to keep dreaming of the top step of the Parisian podium.

The first steep ramps

Most pundits believe that the route of this year’s Tour heavily favours the time trial specialists and Frank Schleck is the man most frequently picked out as the rider for whom this is a problem. On this basis, Schleck and other climbers who struggle against the clock, such as Robert Gesink and Pierre Rolland, will have to take advantage of stages like this. All the damage will be done on the final climb, which has never previously featured on the Tour but provides a breathtaking finale to the Trois Ballons sportive. They may only gain seconds at the finish but they will get a big psychological boost if they drop key rivals.

Janez Brajkovic: "The profile of the final climb is really hard with ramps of 11 and 13 percent and there are certainly going to be some time differences at the top. It is almost six kilometres and averages around 7 percent so it is a climb that suits me."

The Mountains took their toll today. What, four or five left at the finish. Cadell and Wiggins went pedal stroke for pedal stroke.

Seriously, I think I could take these guys. It's simply a question of 80 pounds of nitrogen in the tires of my trusty Trek 730 and about a 25K head start 'cause of my age and heart thing. A couple of Molteni snacks along the way would help.

Apropos de cela, Golux, your remarks about my angelic girlfriend were inappropriate. Tabernac, elle est catolique,ne comprends pas?
