They’re not monkeys, they’re chimps, or at least apes, if they are too abstract to be chimps in particular. In fact the whole drift in the academic community in charge of this kind of thing, whoever they are, is to place chimps and gorillas closer and closer to humans, with constant shifts in the taxonomic nomenclature.
