Timothy Michael Poe, a rising star on NBCs Americas Got Talent has become the subject of controversy after reports emerged that call into question his account of surviving a grenade attack in Afghanistan.
On Monday night, the shows audience broke into applause after they watched a teary-eyed Poe talk about the injury he sustained in Afghanistan. He explained that he had acquired a stutter after suffering a brain injury during his 2009 tour and added that the attack ended his 14-year military career, but that singing was his way of healing. A day after the show aired, however, Lt. Col. Kevin Olson of the Minnesota National Guard issued a statement objecting to Poes account.
Sgt. Poes official military records do not indicate that he was injured by a grenade in combat while serving in Afghanistan in 2009, he wrote, according to The Associated Press.
The 35-year old singer, however, claims that his records are not complete.
They made a statement without having the facts, Poe told CJ Troy, host of the military podcast YouServed."

Well...a guy could have emotional issues from a deployment, without ever being wounded. It appears in this case....no one can even remember the guy being around any action. I’m willing to give time on this issue....maybe part of what he says is right.
Me too-see what happens. But what bugs me is the guy who looked into it stated “his official military records” don’t state he was injured. And he replied that most of the guys in his unit didn’t know about it....
Official records are facts and are different than “guys knowing about it”...not a good sign.
For example my medical records would state if I went to the ER or had a test etc.-facts. My friends “knowing about it” is different...they’re not the same thing.
This guy was a supply specialist as I understand. Those that cling to the Forward Operating Bases (FOB) rather than go on patrol are called Fobbits. In Vietnam they were called REMFS and I won’t share what that means.
You’re right. He could have been in the immediate area of an attack and sustained a concussion with no outwards signs of injury. Others who knew him says he was sent home early with an ear infection or something like that.
I watched his performance too and was suspicious when he didn’t studder once when he was done.
If you will remember, when he was going off stage and had a word with the MC, he did not stutter and the MC remarked on it!!! Snow job?
I noticed and commented to Mrs. panax the same thing. Something fishy here.
I did and commented on it to my friend. I came online at the time trying to see if there was any discussion of it.
I can’t help but be suspicious of some of these acts when they make claims to garner sympathy from the judges and audience
Glad to know others saw it too. Sometimes I am soo suspicious of things.
Just like the goth teen boy with the long hair and weird blue contacts saying no one had ever heard him sing before - just not buying it.
Your spot on mate.
Your spot on mate.
Your spot on mate.
We remember what it means.
