Mozilla uploaded earlier today, June 2nd, the final packages containing the Mozilla Firefox 13.0 web browser for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows operating systems.

There's no official announcement from Mozilla, as the browser is officially expected in three days, on June 5th, but the binary and source packages of the final version of Mozilla Firefox 13.0 were made available for download on their official FTP site.

Highlights of Mozilla Firefox 13.0:

· Implemented Speed Dial in the new tab page (can also be added as home page by setting about:newtab in the Preferences -> General dialog);
· Revamped home page allowing quick access to settings, history, bookmarks, sessions, add-on, downloads and sync;
· Faster browsing, thanks to the SPDY protocol;
· Faster startup by not loading the restored background tabs;
· Smooth scrolling is enabled by default now;
· Improvements to Page Inspector, Scratchpad, Style Editor, Style Inspector, and HTML panel;
· Implemented the column-fill CSS property;
· Initial support for Set objects and ECMAScript 6 Map;
· Support for CSS3 background-position property extended syntax;
· Support for :invalid pseudo-class;
· Support for CSS turn <angle> unit.

How does it handle scripts and Java? My son tells me No Scripts is good but it seems I need Java to run certain live streaming apps and videos.

I’m having trouble running streaming video with it on my Linux Mint machine. I was considering going back to an earlier version.

I run Firefox with NoSCript and AdBlock Plus.

I don't see advertising unless I want to. NoScript can be turned off/on per site with two clicks (one to pull up the menu, one to toggle the setting).

I don't get any pop-ups, advertising, anything except the site content. Google can't track me, nor can doubleclick.

It makes for a very clean surfing experience.

Faster browsing, thanks to the SPDY protocol;

There's very little real world support of SPDY yet on the server side, so any "faster browing" is going to have to wait until it's actually more available.

Indeed, it's not clear that SPDY actually will speed up some websites (ones that are mostly a single large page, such as FreeRepublic, for one); it seems likely that the primary beneficiaries will be websites that have lots of trackers and other embedded bits that a server can guess are going to need to be pulled in for the full page.

I downloaded FF13 yesterday.

I run a program called Rapport which creates security ‘tunnels’ to banking and other passworded websites. Even though the Rapport says it works with FF13, it would not load with mine.

I returned to FF12 and Rapport is working.

Mozilla Firefox rapid release is ridiculous. Nearly every rapid release has caused problems with extensions and/or plug-ins. Whatever idiot thought rapid release would be a good idea should be fired.

Google can't track me, nor can doubleclick.
I use Do Not Track Plus and no one tracks me.

I can barely get firefox to run any more with my anti-virus and anti-tracking software. I’ve downloaded google chrome and for now it seems to work fine. I’ll see if it’s cumulative issue and then trace the cause.

NoScript will let you enable Java if you want to run it.

With FF12, I notice a pop up about scripting errors on certain websites. I am not sure whether the problem is FF or Java or Adobe Flash.

www.nhl.com is one website where the scripting error occurs.

In previous versions of FF and IE, one could select to ignore such errors. That feature does not work in FF12.

Do Not Track Plus from http://abine.com/products.php is a good extension for both IE and FF that blocks trackers.

It is free for home use.

I’d get more excited if they were releasing 64-bit binaries.
I used to stay fairly up to date on by browser, but I just wait for the RPM package updates via yum these days.

Can you run these while running Java? Yes. script and java are completely separate things. I haven't had any problems with noscript breaking java apps.

I tried to ignore a scripting error message that kept popping up until mlb.com and certain live streaming videos and even YouTube stopped working. The next time the script error message came up asking to try to continue running scripts, I hit “continue.” But at the same time, I allowed a java add-on/update that I hadn’t allowed before. Anyway things started working after that but I don’t know which of those thing fixed it.
