8-0 over Cardinals...LETS GO METS!!!
Alriiiight! Just watched parts of the game on SNY... we were cheering Johan Santana on all the way!
I have to say, though, that there was one hit, really. It was the ball hit down the line by Beltran. The ump blew the call, said it was foul. But the replay shows the ball clearly hit the chalk line, making it fair, no question about it.
Also, the catch by Baxter against the left-field wall definitely saved the no-no. Baxter went all out and sacrificed his body to make the catch. Santana has to take that boy out for a primo steak dinner at the best NY restaurant!
And I'm glad Collins left Santana in to finish, regardless of pitch count. It would have been lame to take him out, just because of the silly pitch count.
BTW, I remember watching the near no-hitter Seaver threw, broken up by Jimmy Qualls of the Cubs in the ninth, as I recall.
Listen to the post-game show on WFAN 660 now:
M E T S METS METS METS!!!!!
Good news for the metties.
Still not sure I’m willing to forgive them until they win the Superbowl, but still, GOOD JOB!
Gooden did throw a no-no, but not with the Mets. Same with Ryan, Seaver, Cone, and a few others.
Tom Seaver had five one-hitters as a Met but didn’t get his no-hitter until he was with the Reds IIRC.
Pretty classy interview from Santana...

Climb the Ladder.
he did- for the Yankees....
definitely a hot- but you need those breaks....
I always chuckle when somebody uses the phrase "no-no" to refer to a no-hitter in baseball. It reminds me of a child who refers to a cut or a bruise as a "boo-boo", or a child who says they have to go to the bathroom to "wee-wee".
Powder..patch..ball FIRE!
Pond scum.
Good for him. Extremely rare to pitch a no-hitter.
I was at Shea and Gooden was pitching a no hitter through 6 or 7 , but after he came to bat and hit a home run, he returned to the mound and gave up a hit ( or even more)
I believe it was June 5, 1987, Gooden first homerun since 1985 and first game at Shea since leaving Smithers Institute. Homerun as in 7th , in 8th Damon Berryhill hit on 4th pitch.
“I am John Santana!”
I was a little annoyed knowing I had missed it, when I woke up this morning and the story made the front-page sidebar of our local newspaper.
Oh well - this game will be a "Mets Classics" episode soon enough.
Yeah, I miss a lot in baseball also because the games are just so long and slow.
You will see that no hitter again and again but there’s nothing like being there when it happened.
Isn’t our boy Nolan Ryan king of the no hitters?
Or was somebody better? He had 7.
