I find it ironic that Supernatural is heading to Season 8 and Castle is heading to Season 5.
Both were nearly cancelled at the ends of their first seasons.
Maybe networks should take a clue — people don’t like to watch new series, if the threat of cancellation is hanging over them. Networks need to give new series a chance. There have been several series that I didn’t start watching until late in the series or even into the 2nd year.

A lot of fans have been trying to get “Legend of the Seeker” renewed for a third season.
They do take a clue, most shows bleed viewers season after season, actually even episode to episode. The ones that gain are rare. Networks don’t have the cash to “give a series a chance”, it ain’t the 70s anymore, there’s more competition and their margins are smaller. Back in the day when a “struggling” show still would place 3rd in its time slot and have a solid 10 million viewers they had the money to give it another season. Now a “struggling” show winds up 30th in its time slot and gets 2 million viewers. No time. And its made worse for them because the cable channels are often happy with 2 million viewers, they have less overhead.
