It was announced to great fanfare at the Cannes Film Festival a few years ago when Christine Langan, head of BBC Films, joined forces with producer Stewart Mackinnon to get Abi Morgan to adapt Claire Tomalins brilliant 1991 book The Invisible Woman. That book told of Dickenss relationship with actress Nelly Ternan which started when she was 18 and he was 45.

Oooh! How scandalous!
Mrs. Tick is more than half my age. In fact, she’s a little older than me. Does that mean we have somethin’ racy goin’ on? Cool!

Well, Dickens, like most creative genuises, was no bargain as a father or a husband or a friend. But I do like his books!

Reminds me of Mel Gibson.

Dickens Robert F. Kennedy Jr. destroyed his wife and mother of
11 his 4 children with
this affair.
Mary Richardson Kennedy was found hanged earlier this week - an incident the media is very quiet about.

I agree. Occasionally, I see what appear to be thinly veiled defenses of his behaviour, especially in Hard Times, and also hinted at in David Copperfield.

He does a complete hacket job on his poor wife in David Copperfield!
I’m looking forward to reading Claire Tomlin’s (sp?) new bio on him. I keep seeing it in Barnes & Noble and would love to buy it.
