Well, Dickens, like most creative genuises, was no bargain as a father or a husband or a friend. But I do like his books!

I agree. Occasionally, I see what appear to be thinly veiled defenses of his behaviour, especially in Hard Times, and also hinted at in David Copperfield.

He does a complete hacket job on his poor wife in David Copperfield!

I’m looking forward to reading Claire Tomlin’s (sp?) new bio on him. I keep seeing it in Barnes & Noble and would love to buy it.
