In high school Mitt Romney supposedly held a kid down with the help of four others and cut his hair. Because he was gay?
Mitt was born in 1947, assuming that one graduates high school at 18 that would make this incident take place no later than 1965. Let us assume that it was senior year and it was 1965. Who was gay in 1965. I graduated in 1980 and I can tell you that I never heard of a gay kid in my high school which was in the middle of Chicago. I find it extremely hard to believe that Mitt did what he did in the 1960s for the reason stated.
I will admit that at the park that I hung out at there were the "Greasers" [bear drinkers]and the "Freaks" [pot-heads]and it was not unheard of for a couple of Greasers to grab a Freak and cut his hair. But not because he was gay.
Let's focus more on the here and now. Does the guy that had his hair cut have a job, a house, and a pension?
Nope...he died several years ago.
The first thing that I thought of was that I never heard the term gay in high school during the 60’s.
There is another thread here regarding his sisters. They remember no such event and they are royally Pi$$ed about the bogus story and said if their brother was alive today he would be livid.
Actually, the guy is dead - liver cancer. His family is not happy with this story, which they describe as "factually inaccurate" and "used to further a political agenda". The story does mesh nicely with the week's Obama campaign theme of special rights for gays, and keeping Obama in power is (to liberals) more important than human decency.

And to be clear, I am NO Romney supporter, but this bringing up alleged high school pranks BS is really ticking me off.
Next they’ll be telling us he used to have to wear a diaper because he couldn’t control his BM’s.
This is pathetic.
Agreed. There were no openly homosexual kids in my high school either. Years ago, this subject was not talked about. Nowadays, in this “Glee” generation, it’s actually cool among some to say you are gay or “bi-sexual”, but not years ago. So it’s hard to believe that Romney and the guys were expressing “homophobia” and all that.
And why is the MSM reporting something that happened almost 50 years ago anyway? What does this reveal about Romney and character issues, or what his goals as president would be? Will we hear corresponding embarrassing incidents from Obama’s youth???
"Gimme a big ol' gulp, Yogi!"
Oh my gosh! Cut a hippie homos hair.
In basic training we scrubbed a dirty-neck with Lava soap and a scrub brush.
Guess I’ll not be running for public orifice.
I’ve gone on record as saying the only way I would vote for Romney is if some future revelation about Obama or other “dramatic turn of events” changed the situation. It was a caveat that I did not expect to really be needed, but this event borders on it.
Yeah, I am really as ticked about this as I was about the claims that Sarah was actually the grandmother of her youngest. GRRRRR!!
Whose tongue is that?
In the sixties, my biggest competitor for my eventual girlfriend was effeminate. It did turn out that he was homosexual, but I found out at our 20 year high school reunion. At the time it never crossed my mind. Otherwise, I would not have seen him as competition.
Time reference: I graduated in 1972.
I had a homosexual friend in high school in 1967 or 1968, that was in Texas.
Being naturally conservative I was extremely hostile to bully’s, and was something of an anti-bully enforcer from 1st grade through the rest of my life. Romney would not have liked to have me catch him and his posse attacking an individual.
Yep, as much as I dislike Romney, this is showing who our real enemy is. I don’t like Romney one iota more because of it....but it has made me even more disgusted with Obama and his minions in the media.
Heck. I didnt even know the meaning of gay until a few years out of college.
Talk about innocence.
But then I grew up in a very conservative, different culture the Canal Zone.
Anybody who did not behave was deported back to the U.S. within 24-48 hours.

This WAPO hit piece is going down in flames. CBS interviewed the source, Stu White, who said that he didn’t witness the incident and didn’t even know about it until WAPO told him about it. Yet, WAPO said he ‘has long been bothered by the Lauber incident.’ Also, Lauber’s sister is saying that she doesn’t remember anything like that happening at all. Lauber, (the supposed victim) is now deceased. I believe that the media were given their marching orders to find or manufacture a ‘homophobe’ hit piece on Romney to come out the day after Obama’s gay marriage thing. The story itself is not ‘homophobic’ IMO.
I was in elementary school in the 60’s and teasing about gays using various slurs (though not much the term ‘gay’) was common then, so I expect it was in a private boys’ high school as well.
Certainly many gays have recounted such harassment in school from that era.
Sounds like Romney went overboard trying not to be the goody-two-shoes son of the governor when, by being an observant Mormon, almost by definition that’s what he was.
But that’s not a reason to reelect Obama!
You are right. There was a “Q” word used and I thought it meant someone was strange. I was probably a junior or senior before someone explained the term. That was something that went pretty much under the radar where I lived.
“Does the guy that had his hair cut have a job, a house, and a pension?”
He actually had a pretty amazing life, I think it may be covered at the end of the article.
It’s very sad that this fellow died so young, but it sounds like he was vying for “most interesting man in the world”.
He did some fancy schmancy equestrian work in England. Was a merchant seaman. Became a chef at some fancy restaurant, and even did contractor work of some kind (food?) in Iraq.
I might have messed up some of the details, but that’s the flavor of it.
Maybe he just did all these things to try and escape the humiliation he still felt over Romney’s prank.
But I was bullied a lot in school (A LOT - and by people who were JUST LIKE ME in every way, sex, color, class, ethnicity, religion) and I’ve never done anything particularly interesting.
Although this inspires less serious thoughts, my serious analysis is: If the other guys who did this (and gee all happen to support Obama now) grew up to become sensitive, soulful, nondiscriminating sweethearts, why should anyone assume Mitt Romney is not a great guy 50 years later?
Hmm yet somehow these other guys all consider themselves to now be on the correct side of God, yet they are motivated to pigeon hole Romney back to a 50 year ago high school incident? Despite the fact, let’s face it, they know Romney has led a productive life for many years since.
IOW, hatchet job, not scissor job.
