'The Avengers' affirms, 'There is only 1 God'

“The Avengers” is one of the few movies that actually exceeds its hype (did the marketers purposefully hide how good this film is to build word of mouth later?) and is not only one of the most entertaining films of 2012 thus far, but may be the most enjoyable summer blockbuster I’ve seen in years.

If you can find it, watch the cartoon Ultimate Avengers. It came out a few years ago. It has a great Hulk vs. Everyone fight.

And it has Hank Pym and Wasp.

My son was saying the aliens were more like Locusts from Gears of War, kinda makes me go hmmmm, maybe we will see a big screen version in the future?

But I will nitpick one idea, having an aircraft carrier floating in the sky was stupid stupid stupid, too vulnerable and everything should have been anchored to the deck, looked cruelly cool though but still a stupid idea.

This was one of the things I was referring to that I had to ignore- it's only in there because it's the traditional Shield headquarters in the comics.

There were 2 Hulk movies, both sucked because they missed out on what makes Hulk a hero. Whedon fixed that with one line, when Harry Dean Stanton’s walk on character said he saw Hulk stear his fall away from people, even as a creature of rage Hulk is has Banner’s soul or self sacrifice.

SHIELD’s flying fortress is cannon. And something Nick Fury fans have been waiting to see since Jackson’s first walk-on in the roll. And yeah historically that thing is more trouble than it’s worth.

Cap’s armor definitely had some improvements, it was mentioned and they were visible. Bullet proof who knows.

My friend and I thought Thor seemed more god-like than his movie. He’s done some growing up. He understand consequences now, which made him more cautious but more of a leader too.

I hope now that Whedon fixed the cinema Hulk they give him another movie.

This was definitely better than the movie we expected.

“watching Battleship right now, just started...”

You must be outside the US?

Please send a review, I had high hopes for the movie because well it involves the Missouri saving the human race when high tech fails. Hollywood decided to postpone the US release and sent it overseas first to make money before it hit the US markets, they are still reeling from the John Carter debacle, of which I personally thought was decent.

I never read the Avengers comics, the carrier should have had at the very least a 3-1 redundancy, 12 high lift fans with only needing 4 to remain aloft, and should have emergency backup rocket thrusters.

It was cool looking but the one from another movie from the 1930’s, the one with Angelina as the captain was more functional. Sky Captain I think it was.

If it has 3-1 redundancy then it can’t be attacked as easily and you don’t have a handy source of plot tension. In a comic book world where you’re going to be seeing something 4 or 5 times a year things like that need weak spots, huge gaping weak spots that get exploited every year. It’s nice to have a place the good guys can rest safely from the bad guys, but it’s more important that it need to be saved FROM the bad guys occasionally.

I will say that some of that is because of Joss Whedon, the director and a writer who knows how to build witty dialog into a narrative like few others I've seen. God knows his politics and personal religious beliefs are all wrong, but he is brilliant when it comes to character development and dialog.

I also loved his "Cabin in the Woods" which isn't doing nearly as well as Avengers.

They did show stuff being anchored to the deck, which is why I didn’t understand how stuff could be sliding off later.
