If your movie is bad, play for it people who just need to see explosions and special effects. But...but...aren't foreign audiences more 'sophisticated" than the dopey Americans?

Liam Neeson’s in it - he’s a star.
It was OK - very busy and over the top.

I must have the intelligence of a troglodyte because I can’t wait to see “Battleship” and I loved “John Carter”.

from the trailer it looked like more hi tech far feched
escapist fare. i’m not great at suspending reality, at least not to that extent. others may find it entertaining.

This is very smart. Disappointed that it's come to this, but in our rate/review obsessed culture, word of mouth has replaced actuality.
Just finished reading a book about the infamous movie Heaven's Gate, the film that destroyed United Artists because of bad word of mouth and a particularly ghastly review from Vincent Canby at the NYT, who called the movie the equivalent of a "forced four-hour walking tour of one's own living room". The whole fiasco was a groupthink hatchet job against a film that is at least worth a look, and is enjoyable to some.
Studios releasing overseas ahead of the US is indicative of a larger problem, and that is peoples' obsession with reviews and ratings, on everything from movies and music to washers and toasters.
What happened to experiencing things for oneself? I can't think of anything more worthless than the opinion of an anonymous stranger.

I recently went to WonderCon in Anaheim and saw extended previews of several films, including BATTLESHIP. They had panel discussions with some of the actors, producers, and directors. I was in the front row and about 15 feet from Brooklyn Decker. The movie looks like it will be fun.
