Members of the International Submarine Band chose a name for their new group that practically assured it would never rise above cult status. Sure enough, that band disappeared with barely a trace after making a handful of recordings in the mid-1960s. But after ISB members Gram Parsons and Chris Ethridge teamed up with ex-Byrds singer and songwriter Chris Hillman and steel guitarist Pete Kleinow to form the pioneering country-rock group the Flying Burrito Brothers, the ISB won itself permanent footnote status in the history of pop music. Ethridge, who died Monday at 65 at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian, Miss., of complications from pancreatic cancer, was the groups bassist, and co-wrote several songs with Parsons, widely lauded as one of the most innovative figures in the marriage of country and rock in the 1960s. Ethridge also spent about eight years in Willie Nelsons touring band, a gig during which he recorded one of Nelsons most famous anthems, Whiskey River.

Oh my! Another musician gone? This has been a terrible few days! RIP! One of my favorite bands! I still play Sin City on my bender guitar. Going to go play it right now!
I enjoyed his music and still do.
I hope that he was saved.
Prayer up for his family.
Not to be confused with "The International Silver String Submarine Band"

RIP.
What is with these musicians dying so young?
“What is with these musicians dying so young?”
Very hard lifestyles for many. Setting aside pervasive if not quite universal drug and alcohol abuse, long hours, bad food, irregular lodging, high stress, lots of travel. I think many even in ‘retirement’ tend to push the limits. God bless ‘em, but they have opted for a tough road in many ways.
Robbie Robertson put it well when Scorcese asked him why they were hanging it up after 16 years on the road. “you can only push your luck so far.”
It’s a very, very hard life.
I can think of one drug that is the worst on the human body: Cocaine. It does worse damage than alcohol and tobacco combined. If the medical profession were to raise the alarm on this insidious poison, there would be more people living longer, happier lives.
