Joshua Bell recently made a surprise appearance on TMZ, the website infamous for its scandalous and prurient celebrity news and gossip. It's not normally where you expect to find a classical violinist, celebrated though he is.

An interesting story about Joshua Bell. As the subject of a Wash. Post article, he played anonymously in the D.C. Metro as an experiment to see if people would recognize a virtuosic performance or just pass by as if they were hearing a street performer. What do you think happened?

Typical journalistic too-clever-by-half experiment where the outcome was known from the beginning.
At a subway station people are rushing to catch a train or, when disembarking, to go to work. D’uh!
Recommended on Spotify: Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E Minor Op. 64, Joshua Bell with Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Sir Neville Mariner conducting.
Had an enjoyable chat with him and his accompanist, Jean-Yves Thibodet, some years back.
My date had gone to high school with him and was in the class of his younger sister, whom she had known well. I persuaded her to come and meet with them after their recital.
