I walked in the room and my wife has it on.
Reba just found out her 4th generation grandfather owned slaves and now she feels like a horrible human.
The historian just said, "We white people must understand that we have a connection to slavery so we all can heal."
I gagged.
They were also fed and clothed. We call that room and board.
John Brown was a relative of mine. I don’t usually mention it. To anyone.
Don’t watch ABCNBCCBSPBSCNN.....Rarely watch FOX.

Man, that is a lot to carry around inside.
Good for you! We have two big flat screens in two rooms of our house, and that’s about two too many. Husband has a t.v. habit; insists on watching the news and weather before he goes to sleep. We live in tornado country, so I suppose keeping an eye on the weather forecast isn’t a bad thing, but we hear all the bad news of the world several times a day.
I keep the t.v. off most of the time; and wish I could get the rest of it under control. He’s sorta hard of hearing, so I can’t get away from it too easily. I keep earplugs handy, and that helps some. I’m convinced that one could go six months at a time not hearing all the clamor and clanging and still be better off.
Tell it to the religion of slavery islam!
I didn’t find anything offensive about that episode. It was actually one of the better ones; Reba was very open with how she felt about her family history and I found the whole thing very moving.
Why are we so quick to find offense in everything?
I only know this because my wife still watches network garbage: The amount of gay couples portrayed on sitcoms is disgusting. I get it. It's part of real life but it's so obvious they make SURE there's a token gay couple in every show. Then, there is the standard dumb Republican insult that get's thrown into the script.
I just walk in on this stuff..and I see this much. You made the right choice.
I have never ever felt a shred of so-called white guilt. I think it only affects liberals.
I know one of John Brown's great-granddaughters.
One of my great-great-grandfathers had a slave (just one), but his son fought for the Union to free the slaves.
I bought a bunch of books at an estate sale one time. One of them mentioned a Little Bill who was a black birder out of Bristol, England. Did a bit of research and found a family relationship, who cares.
Then one of your relative’s is indirectly responsible for the death of two of my male relatives by John
Brown Raiders in Kansas in 1858.
I love that image:) I show to east coast liberals a version of that picture (my digital camera’s rendition of the original) when they ask me about life in the midwest.
That was a rerun—that being said, ALL of those “Who do You Think You Are?” shows are either guilt trips (If your family happened to own slaves or be conservative) or high fives (for feminists and the progressive way-See Helen Hunt and Martin Sheen).
I'm white and I don't have a connection to slavery.
The historian makes a generalization based on skin color.
Ironic isn't it.
