Goodbye Freerepublic...

I can tell that Freerepublic has started spiraling into hysteria similar to what I sensed around the 2008 election time.... I'll check back in in 2013 to see if things simmered down.

Ha! Wasn’t old Esh famous for: “If Jesus were alive today he’d be packin’ heat?”
Or do I have my nutcases mixed up from way back when?

Most people who invite others to their home do not then ask their guest to pay their mortgage. You're going to pay to enjoy the goods and services of any fine eatery, but get out of hand and the owner has every right to throw you out of his establishment.
No different here.

As I always say, there’s something about this color that can go from picking out an eggplant at the local supermarket, to parties with Secret Service men in Colombia, without missing a beat. :-)

We will not improve this country by allowing, by inaction, Barack Obama to be elected to a second term. Or by allowing that other Socialist, Romney, to be elected...

212 posts makes them more of an observer. With that poor level of activity, I doubt that poster will even notice they've been zotted for months to come .. LOL

I see long time FReepers get zotted... Longevity doesn't count for squat if a member has lost all connection to the mores, values, and ethics of the group. When they begin to take on the color of an enemy, it's time to go.

Go to the News/Activism page and look up top. Click where it says ‘account’, and your stats are there. Here’s mine:
“You’ve posted a total of 178 threads and 25,701 replies.”
I’m coming up on my fifth anniversary here, so I guess that’s respectable.

Individuals and private entities have a right and a responsibility to sensor to keep things in line with what they believe in. The government should not. If you don't like the direction of censorship, than by all means, go somewhere that is compatible with who you are. You won't find another place like FR, with folks as interesting, funny and accurate about so many things. Most of us are pretty capable of debating with others about ideas and beliefs that are not exactly our own. Many of us are somewhere in the same ballpark and fairly tolerant of others, except those who are out trolling for trouble.

"Put simply, we ally with evil all the time for the greater good and I am not against having done any of that. I think the same applies very often in politics." That's true, and I've done it myself. I remember voting for McCain in 2008, but really I was voting for Sarah. However, there's a limit, a line you just can't make yourself cross. For me, Romney is that line. I watched the 2002 video of that smarmy liar saying he would make it easy for minor girls to get a judge's permission for an abortion---behind their parents' backs. And then five years later he was saying he had "always" been pro-life.
I just don't think I could wash myself clean enough after voting for him.

"You're right about fear and knee jerk, emotional reactions to Jim's clear and clarion messages. He said little new that he hasn't said repeatedly for years. He merely added more and recent examples of Romney's treachery." This is what I don't understand. I lurked here for three years, and I'm very well aware of Jim's longstanding opinion of Romney. It was made clear long ago. So what did these folks expect? That he would do a 180 and suddenly begin to support Romney, putting the lie to everything he's said in the past? Really??
"You're also right about TV News and radio. FReepers would be better served reading FR. I do. I have stopped watching Fox and all but stopped listening to Rush. (I occasionally hear his show from the kitchen where DrO listens). I am much happier and much better informed. "
Same here, Onyx. I haven't listened to Rush in a couple of weeks, and if Romney becomes the nominee, I won't be listening to much talk radio at all until the election is over. It isn't that I don't love Rush and Mark Levin. But they will have to get behind Romney and push him, for reasons I understand, and it really won't be pleasant to hear.

“the great enemy.”
Obama may be the greatest enemy that we have faced. The enemy from within is what Nikita Krushchev said would bury us.
