President Obama's Easter Address. White House April 7, 2012
Good afternoon. This Sunday marks a holiday for a major religion in our nation. Easter is a time for families to come together to enjoy a nice meal and perhaps go on an "egg hunt". Thousands of years ago the people of Europe seeking to invite their god to return after a long an cold winter lit fires and painted eggs as a sign of fertility.
Today we also express our hope for a new dawning in America when prosperity returns after the winter of flawed economic policies that forced so many of our people into a dark night of want and despair.
Now we are seeing hope return! Just like the budding of trees and the blooming of spring time flowers, thanks to the hard work of so many in Washington and in my Administration we see that America is beginning to work again.
Our baskets are being filled -- not with candied eggs and treats -- but with thousands of green energy jobs and health care for everyone.
Easter time holds special meaning for Christians. But all of us, no matter what faith or philosophy -- or even if we choose not to believe in cultural myths at all -- can identify with elements of the sacred rabbit story: no matter how cold the winter, spring always triumphs!
So, let us celebrate the triumph of hope over despair. Of faith over doubt. Of equality over wealth hording.
Let us take hold of the notion that there is something out there that is bigger than ourselves! So while we may put our trust in ancient cultural beliefs, we are even more comforted with the knowledge that something truly bigger than our selves is working in Washington providing the benefits and programs that are helping Americans find their way in life's journey.
Just like the Easter Bunny brings treats to satisfy our sweet tooth, our policies are ensuring that the middle class will not be left with empty baskets.
That is why we ask that the top one percenters in our nation to give just a small part of their wealth to share with the vast majority who just want to get by with some dignity. Then our land will be like a lawn spread with colored eggs, ready to be found!
This faith helps unite Americans of all backgrounds, income levels, ethnicities, sports teams and parties. It reminds us what can happen when the rich are generous! It gives us strength to endure difficult times caused by the flawed policies of the past. It is this faith that lavishes upon us hope as we look for the coming of that Bunny of Recovery in the near future.
Happy Easter. And good egg hunting for us all!
Yes, it is parody. Looks like about half of the posters here were fooled.
A couple were mad at me.
But, what I have Obama saying it so outrageous I figured people would catch on right away.
Guess after last weeks speech for the AP in which he claims Republicans want to starve people and bring down weather satellites, we will believe anything.
Or how about the claim that the Supreme Court can’t over turn laws?
These claims are on the level of this parody. So no wonder so many weren’t sure if it was really him saying this or not. Hee, hee.
*picking jaw up off the floor*... I thought this was satire. I don’t even know what to say. If he is re-elected it’s over. OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shame on you! LOL! I never click on links to the WH. what is sad is that I seriously thought it was real. How sick is that?
I detest that man with every fiber of my being. I want him out of there in January.
“or even if we choose not to believe in cultural myths at all — can identify with elements of the sacred rabbit story: no matter how cold the winter, spring always triumphs!”
Wow. I need a set of military-grade waders.
or even if we choose not to believe in cultural myths at all
Can you give me a big WTF????? Seriously? This guy is something else.
amen on that’’’’’’’’’’’’’’1
It’s tough to mention Christianity when you’re a Muslim.
Lol. That rabbit just got a look at how much it’ll have to work to pay off the National Debt!
is this satire?
“Not God bless America,God damn America...” Was there anything more to the address than that?
Once again the media tells us implicitly that he really is not a Christian.
“A major religion.”
Ahem, Dear Reader. The major religion. Why, you speak of Christianity as if you’re not really that familiar with it. What... Jeremiah Wright didn’t teach your congregation about redemption?
Hmmm.
Good Lord... the SACRED RABBIT STORY?!!
Is this dude from MARS?!
Ah, jeez, ya got me. It’s getting harder to distinguish the satire from reality.
(facepalm)
“These holidays have their roots in miracles that took place thousands of years ago. They connect us to our past and give us strength as we face the future,” the president, a Christian, said.
“Once again the media tells us implicitly that he really is not a Christian.”
You quote from the actual Easter address. The media felt it necessary to add that, in case you are too stupid to figure this out, the President is “a Christian”.
Why would they need to say that unless it wasn’t clear by his actions or words? He doesn’t go to Church or hold services in the White House. He like to golf constantly on Sunday instead.
He says that he believes in the miracles and resurrection of Christ. But, you wonder if he believes more like those who feel that faith is a nice fantasy that helps weak people get by in life.
This guy voted twice against the infant born alive act. He “attended” and had his kids baptized in Jeremiah Whight’s black liberation church, which is literally a racist, communist sect.
You almost get the impression that Obama is a Christian just like he is opposed to gay marriage. He SAYS that he is opposed, but we all know that he is in favor and has recently proclaimed that he has “grown on that issue.”
