After years of administrative battle a military dog handler was finally reunited with her loyal friend. Former Marine Cpl. Megan Leavey was told in March that she would be allowed to give a home to Sgt. Rex, the german shepherd she spent two military tours serving with. On Friday night the two were brought back together again in an emotional ceremony at Camp Pendletons K-9 Unit which marked the end of Rex's ten-year service.

It’s a shame that the military dragged this thing out for five years. That could be a third of the dog’s life, and it makes no sense not to retire a dog with his handler. A bond has formed, and it should be left alone.
It’s great that Sgt. Rex and Megan can be together again, finally.
