Atlas Shrugged Part 2 Fully Cast with Shooting to Begin Today
(Beverly Hills, CA) - April 2nd, 2012 - Either-Or Productions announced today that the film adaptation of Ayn Rands Atlas Shrugged, Part 2, Either Or has been fully cast and principal photography has begun.
Based on Ayn Rands (Feb. 2 1905 - Mar. 6 1982) 1957 novel, ATLAS SHRUGGED PART II: EITHER OR is set in a near future dystopian United States with a global economy on the brink of collapse and brilliant creators, from artists to industrialists, mysteriously disappearing at the hands of the unknown.
Starring in the film are Samantha Mathis as the heroine Dagny Taggart, Jason Baghe as the industrialist Henry Hank Rearden, and Esai Morales as the playboy Francisco Frisco dAnconia.

I thought the name looked familiar. He was Joseph Adama in the Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica.
Francisco's money speech is the heart of the book. They had better do it well.
"....When force is the standard, the murderer wins over the pickpocket. And then that society vanishes, in a spread of ruins and slaughter."Do you wish to know whether that day is coming? Watch money. Money is the barometer of a society's virtue. When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice you may know that your society is doomed. Money is so noble a medium that it does not compete with guns and it does not make terms with brutality. It will not permit a country to survive as half-property, half-loot.
It's like Ayn Rand had seen Obamacare, Solyndra, the GM bailout and the rest of this administration - or more likely Obama is like thousands of other tyrants throughout history.
Agreed, but maybe by the time book three is being cast, Angelina Jolie will come back to the project. Could raise the audience and box office numbers.
I suspect that the original actors got ‘offer they could not refuse’.
Some Hollywood big names were ready to appear in part one and then pulled outs in the last minute.
Supposedly the film is to appear in theatres in Oct.; even if it flops I doubt it would appear on DVD for Christmas. The first part was April 15 of last year in theatres and I think it was on DVD six months later.
(One possible scenario had it coming out election week
but this wikipedia entry for “Sequels” for A.S. I says the following:)
>>In July 2011, Aglialoro planned to start production of Atlas Shrugged: Part 2 in September, with its release timed to coincide with the 2012 U.S. elections. In October 2011, producer Harmon Kaslow stated that he hopes filming for Part 2 begins in early 2012, “with hopes of previewing it around the time of the nominating conventions.” Kaslow anticipated that the film, which would encompass the second third of Atlas Shrugged, would “probably be 30 to 40 minutes longer than the first movie.” Kaslow also stated his intent that Part II would have a bigger production budget, as well as a larger advertising budget.
On February 2, 2012, Kaslow and Aglialoro, the producers of Atlas Shrugged: Part 2, announced a start date for principal photography in April 2012 with a release date of October 2012.
They’ve recast the movie.
I saw that and am a tad apprehensive but I’m still going to the release.
I would have liked Claudia Christian as Dagny. She certainly handled the role Ivanova exceptionally well in my eyes. She is always so super nice at conventions too.
I’m disappointed, but I’ll still go see it. I thought Hank Reardon and Lillian were both perfect in Part I and it looks like neither is returning. That’s too bad.
Yeah, I got that, but I’m curious why. I didn’t think the first cast was bad.
Well, that will make it rather awkward when you want to watch the 3 parts in one sitting - which is what I was looking forward to.
This will make it disjointed - and the DAgney and Reardon characters are a real disappointment. We’ve already identified with the Dagney and Reardon of Part 1.
this is a let down - all the way around.
Going with bigger names I see. (bigGER not big)
Though ironically Taylor Schilling, the girl from the first one (who is 14 years younger than he replacement), will probably become a star now cause she’s in the latest Hollywood romance movie with a Disney pretty boy pretending he can be a lead actor in major motion pictures.
The original cast was good but I reckon it is the story anyhow. For a time Angelina Jolie was talked about as the lead. Maybe part three?
And I thought Hank Rearden looked exactly like Hank Rearden too.
Bump.
I’m glad they recast Dagney and Francisco. The first Hank was good, but I would imagine that the new Hank will be just as good from his past performances. I think the Frisco character will be much better. I’ve not seen him in much, but he has the right look. I never bought the first Frisco. I thought Taylor was too soft to be Dagney. I don’t know this new actress, but I hope she is stronger than Taylor. I’d still like to see someone with a strong presence like Angie Harmon or Jolie (although I’m not sure Jolie would do the part justice).
My first review of Part I was a little harsh, mostly because of the Frisco and Slug characters. I’m sure I will be at the first showing of Part II. Can’t wait.
