Advice from one who's read the books: Don't expect the first episode of season 2 to resolve all issues and answer all questions. There have been 5 books published so far, and the second season covers the second book. There are 2 more books planned. It will take 7000 more pages to resolve everything.

Based on my knowledge of the second book, I'd expect the first episode of season 2 to involve more setup and exposition than were in the final episodes of season 1, but not as much as in the first episode of season 1.

And there are no main characters. Never forget that.

Here is a spoiler, everyone dies. GRRM is a one trick pony.

Oh, come on.

3,000 pages maybe, but not 7,000 - that would be 7 books, not 2.

Also, there are main characters. Daenerys and Jon Snow will be there till the end, for instance (especially since they might be half-siblings - POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT!).

The show has covered 1 book. That means there are 6 books to go. Since the average page count is over 1000 pages...

We don't know that.

Here is a spoiler, everyone dies.

We don't know that. Many of the characters introduced in the first book are still alive at the end of the fifth book (say half, as a very rough and intentionally vague estimate.) I'd be more specific, but...

Okay, now I understand what you’re saying. You mean 7 volumes total. I thought you meant there were 7 volumes to be published yet.

Oddly enough, this is why I didn’t read the review of Dance of Dragons past the first sentence. Knowing someone is alive in book 5 is actually a spoiler for books 2, 3 and 4.

I was really willing to give the show a chance but Stark...seriously?

It’s interesting when a story has a flawed protagonist - a Byronic Hero - but annoying when the protagonist is an idiot whose every decision is wrong.

How was Ned Stark NOT Obama with a sword?

I liked the Sean Bean character and my interest waned when he died in Season One.

Did you lose interest in politics when Reagan died?

Battles may be lost, but the war goes on...

i read where the show producer said he’s not going 100% by the books. the same basic storyline and all but some differences, some things out of order, etc... so the tv show won’t just be a carbon copy of the books

We just watched the first episode of the new season and can’t wait for more. I will always miss Ned Stark, however.

You will miss Rob too. Everyone (who is interesting) dies. GRRM is a one trick pony. It was revolutionary when he killed off Ned after having focused on him. Then he got adicted to that “kill of the main guy” approach and now if he is writing or focusing on a character during a book, there is a pretty good chance (90%) that the character is going to bite it. In addition, if you think you have an idea where the story is going, forget it. That is because GRRM has no idea where the story is going. In contrast to a JK Rowling, GRRM has no idea how the books are going to end. Why the hell else would it take this guy umpteen years to write each book (other than the fact you need to take notes to follow each book as there are nineteen different POV characters.

Oh, here is my last spoiler. You know who else is going to die? We are (and possibly GRRM) before GRRM finishes this goddamned thing!!!
