I don’t miss Ned. His children seem smarter by being rather different from him. Sansa knows to hold her tongue while being held prisoner. Ayra ran. Robb gathered forces (and decided not to face the Kingslayer one on one). Ok, Jon Snow is somewhat stupid. Hopefully, he listens to the smarter Night Watchmen around him.
I disagree about Ned. He was a solid anchor in the show. I also miss the Khal — perhaps he will arise when the sun rises in the west and sets in the east ;
Of course Tyrian takes up a lot of the slack left by the elimination of Ned, with his wry humor and scrappy nature.
I think this is one of the best written, directed and filmed shows ever on television. Have also read book 1 so far, and have the rest ready to go.

GRRM is unparalleled in his ability to create characters that people love to hate. And in his ability to make you crazy for vengeance.
He gives you hope..then dashes it. Makes you think vengeance will never be served, then surprises you with it in some unexpected way.
It’s not just the good guys who aren’t safe. They lose too. He’ll even make you feel sorry for them.
And he’ll also make you realize the good guys who lose were at least partly responsible for their own failure.
And just when you think you’ve figured out his pattern, he changes it.
