If you go to Google.com right now, you see a "Driving change: get up to speed on our winning new partnership" link under the Google search box...if you click it you go here: http://www.google.com/racing/ April Fools I would guess!!
(Excerpt) Read more at google.com ...
I would imagine that the programming would have to be tweaked for Nascar, but the theory is the same. In many ways a Nascar track is simpler than roads in the wild, you don’t have as many signs.
But remember it is April 1st, and 35+ cars autonomously driving around the track never touching and pre-programmed to pass with the winner pre-determined wouldn’t exactly be NASCAR! ;-) What?...merchandise trailers with Dell & HP server hats? “Go #7 Blade Server!!” Ha!
I’m steering lucky... LOL
Advanced search? Great maybe we can finally find Obama’s real birth certificate.
The winner wouldn’t be predetermined if the cars are autonomous. Even if they had the same programming, the cars themselves would differ in abilities. Ideally, each team would get to tweak their programming. They’d have a more agressive program that what google would release on the road.
Accidents could still happen. Bets could still be made. Celebrating the software engineer’s win, wouldn’t quite be the same.
