On Sundays Face the Nation on CBS, Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum explained that his view of the Trayvon Martin shooting differed significantly from the one held by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
Gingrich was critical of President Barack Obamas reaction, but Santorum placed the blame on accused shooter George Zimmermans mental state.
Well, you know, obviously, Im not privy to whats going on in someones mind, Santorum said. Obviously, in my opinion, someone
has a very sick mind who would pursue someone like this. This is clearly a heinous act. You know, there are a lot of people who have a lot of distorted views of reality. Its a tragic, tragic case. And my heart goes out to the parents, too. I cant imagine what theyre suffering, losing their son in such a horrific way. All I would say is that, whatever the motive is, it was a malicious one, and a very, very tragic one.

No it isn’t. I live in Realville unlike you who live in fantasyland.
The MSM didn’t “steamroll” Santorum. Only an uneducated moron would believe such garbage. They asked for his OPINION, and he OPINED.
“...Rick seems to be commenting without knowing all the facts in the case.”
Can that not be likened to a lack of courage and leadership, such as displayed by Obama on this issue?
Pathetic. I perceived Santorum as a limp noodle from the get go. Thanks a lot Rick for confirming my impression.
Once again, we are so screwed.
Absolutely.
I can't believe a presidential candidate would even comment on this. He's a vote whore.
“Zimmerman had no right to be chasing Treyvon down - that is not in the neighborhood watch handbook.”
####
George did not exactly “chase down” Martin. He backed off when instructed by the 911 operator.
This is just more of Santorum swallowing the left’s narrative.
Neighborhood watch captains have no authority over anyone except other neighborhood wathch persons.
Therin lies the problem...this cop wannabe went off and actually thought he was a cop.
Got a problem with being subserviant to just anyone do you?
Yep. Santorum's statement is moronic.
As for Newt "getting it," though, he had this to say:
The young man apparently was not following the person whos being investigated, Gingrich told CNNs Piers Morgan in an interview Thursday night. Apparently, the shooter was following the young man. Thats not a stand your own ground, thats a chase the other person into their ground. And I think youre going to find the law, as interpreted normally, doesnt apply to this case.
He is jumping the gun also, before all of the facts are known.
As far as I can tell, Ron Paul is the only Republican candidate who hasn't made a statement regarding this case. That's probably because nobody in the press has asked him for one, because nobody cares what he thinks at this point.
Sadly, Romney is the only R candidate who has answered this one correctly:
What happened to Trayvon Martin is a tragedy, Romney said. There needs to be a thorough investigation that reassures the public that justice is carried out with impartiality and integrity.
Don't state an opinion until all of the facts are official.

Really, I thought Santorum was right on this. I’ll it turns out be so.
At least a whore gets something in return, Rick won't win a single vote because of this statement.
Primitive forms of denial fit better on different websites. You might feel very much more at home at DU. For example, I bet they agree with you 100% re George Zimmerman..
Using the term, "chasing someone down" clearly implies or suggested Zimmerman started a physical altercation.
You're wording is BS, hysterical, with a leftist race baiting slant and something Sharpton would use.
Agree. Newt actually understands what is going on. Santorum is in over his head and needs to make the call to Newt. Today.
Dude, you’re full of it!
Zimmerman left his truck in response to Martin running. He wanted to maintain visual contact. Zimmerman then tells the dispatcher he lost Martin. Both are confirmed by the phone call transcript.
Zimmerman did not “chase Martin down”. He lost sight of him.
Wow... Between this and the Obama vs. Romney support statement, I can’t think of a politican who ever had a worse week. Hell, Rick Perry didn’t ralph it up this badly.
You still haven’t listened ot the 991 call, have you?
You really could not be more ignorant if you tried.
Your head has been filled with race poison, and it is sad to witness.
“Zimmerman did not chase Martin down. He lost sight of him.”

Right.
The quoted phrase was from someone else I was DISAGREEING with.
