On Sundays Face the Nation on CBS, Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum explained that his view of the Trayvon Martin shooting differed significantly from the one held by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
Gingrich was critical of President Barack Obamas reaction, but Santorum placed the blame on accused shooter George Zimmermans mental state.
Well, you know, obviously, Im not privy to whats going on in someones mind, Santorum said. Obviously, in my opinion, someone
has a very sick mind who would pursue someone like this. This is clearly a heinous act. You know, there are a lot of people who have a lot of distorted views of reality. Its a tragic, tragic case. And my heart goes out to the parents, too. I cant imagine what theyre suffering, losing their son in such a horrific way. All I would say is that, whatever the motive is, it was a malicious one, and a very, very tragic one.

>> “Zimmerman was not even registered as an official neighborhood watchman.” <<
.
Well, Mr race baiting TROLL, you are wrong, he is the watch capitan.
The kid is dead because he attacked Zimmerman relentlessly.
.
IS THAT YOU, NEWT? Are you STILL POLITICIZING a child’s murder?
“Zimmerman had no right to be pursuing this kid. This kid had an iced tea and skittles. Zimmerman was not even registered as an official neighborhood watchman.
The guy stalked this kid down and killed him. That is malicious and disturbed.”
The facts and eyewitness accounts do not support what you said. Lets let all the evidence come out and then we will make a decision based on the evidence.
Face the Nation Transcript - March 25, 2012
NORAH O'DONNELL: Okay, there you go. Let's move on to a very serious subject. And, of course that is the national uproar that is going on after the death of that seventeen-year-old Trayvon Martin in Florida. The President made a very personal statement about this. Let's listen.PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: I can only imagine what these parents are going through. And when I think about this boy, I think about my own kids. My main message is-- is to the parents of Trayvon Martin. You know, if I had a son he would look like Trayvon.
NORAH O'DONNELL: Senator, the President did not use the word race, but do you think race played a role here?
RICK SANTORUM: Well, I mean, I obviously I'm not privy to what's going on in someone's mind. Obviously in my opinion someone who had a very sick mind who would-- who would pursue someone like this. This is clearly a heinous act. And, you know, there are a lot of people who have a lot of distorted views of reality. And, it's-- it's a tragic, tragic case. And my heart goes out to the parents, too. I can't imagine what they're suffering losing their son in-- in such a horrific way. All I would say is that whatever the motive is, it was a malicious one and a very, very tragic one.
NORAH O'DONNELL: Well, Newt Gingrich said that what the President said in a sense is disgraceful because it is not a question of who that man looked like. Any young man of any ethnic background should be safe. Was Newt Gingrich wrong to make those comments?
RICK SANTORUM: Well, all I can say is that, you know, again, there are a lot of people who have very-- very perverted views of reality and-- and obviously have, as we see, people who-- who do horrible things for seemingly senseless reasons. And I-- I think it's hard to generalize from one heinous act something that is, you know, try to-- try to make a bigger point out of it. And I think that's probably what Newt was getting at. And I would just say to the President and to everybody that, you know, we need to focus on being there to be supportive and-- and, for the family that's going through this tragedy.
NORAH O'DONNELL: All right. Senator Rick Santorum, thank you for joining us.
When you demonstrate to us that you were there witnessing the event, I might believe you. Right now, there’s conflicting evidence, and in a free country governed by the rule of law that means we withhold judgment and await the results of an investigation and trial, if the later is warranted.
We are not part of a lynch mob manipulated by the MSM. Or at least Freepers are not; looks like Santorum is.
The difference is Santorum believes what he says.
I've said for months this guys a disaster, and that he wasn't smart enough or savvy enough to run for President, much less BE President, and now here we are.
Thanks to all of those Santorum supporters for continuing to make excuses for this clown all along the way.
Great. Just great. Pray for the Republic.
The kis is dead, because some freakin’ crackpot cop-wannabe chased him down with a gun and killed him.
The kid is dead, because some freakin’ crackpot cop-wannabe chased him down with a gun and killed him. This has nothing to do with race - it is a cop wannabe being trigger happy.
I am sure you are right—”when the chips are down and the MSM is up in a frenzy”—we can expect Rick Santorum to fold like a lawnchair.
That’s you, Race Baiting Liar!
.
So why is it that Zimmermna remains free and uncharged after shooting a kid with a bag of skittles?
I can see you didn’t listen to the call I linked you at all.
It clear shows that George did IN FACT OBEY the REQUEST of the 911 operator, and I don’t give a sh*t what his girlfriend says, because there is no recording of that call.
And when you do listen, why don’t you point out to me the exact second where George said “f*cking coon” too...
Time to grow a brain.
What evidence of that do you have?
I wouldn't call it pandering. It's a teachable moment - and not just for Santorum. He'll find out soon enough, that he leaped to several serious and erroneous conclusions, and did so on a national stage. Careless, at best.
Got a mouse in your posket, there?
It’s now the time to admit no GOP win in November.
It’s time to prepare for another four years of the SOS!
I’m securing all assets and hunkering down.
If anyone thinks that there is a Statesman/Politician that really cares for WE THE PEOPLE, man are they wrong!
As bad as one may think the Left is corrupt, do not overlook the the Right is a carbon copy.
I was once told by a very intelligent woman “If you give away your A$$ you’ll end up s—ting through your ribs!”.
We owe our future to the Company Store and that store is China, Greece and the rest of the world.
Rev. Wright taught Obama well!
how pathetic (the posts here). wah-wah, nobody listens to newtie, wah-wah. I think every primary/caucus has shown that Rick’s popularity is far larger than any pissing contest thread you people try to develop here. Keep it up though. I like reading desperation in action.
I also enjoy people that’ve never posted in Pro-Rick threads then say crap like “I was for Rick, but this is a deal-breaker for me”. Give me a F-—in break. You all were b*tching about how the economy was going to be the biggest issue in the election, then call this sh*t a deal breaker? Um yeah, okay.
Santorum has a strong opinion on the case. So what? Race baiting, I think not. This guy has the makings of a kook who watched too many episodes of CSI. Based on this guy’s history, I don’t think it matterred whether the kid was white or black, if this lunatic felt like playing cops and robbers, he was going to whether the “robber” wanted to play or not.
But who am I to put things in perspective when the major goal of this thread was to bash Rick?
Give it a rest people. You’re starting to sound like deranged Paul supporters. Hmm, maybe that explains it.
Why should anybody take your remarks seriously? Do you care about your own credibility?
I hope this does him in completely. There is no excuse for this sort of moronic statement.
It’s not a gaffe, it’s a window into his thinking.
Lord help us. We have the weakest sitting President ever, and we have Romney, Santorum, Paul and Newt to choose from.
