NO it is taking a swat at a persons beliefs and making a joke out of it. And Lately It seems to be That If you are a professing Christian You are automatically Relegated to “stereotypical Hypocrites who hate and judge everyone” and add no value oh and are the butt of every moral joke.
He’s a team leader type with strong moral character now joining a team that desperately lacks in both. And the GM specifically mentioned that in the trade press conference.
All Christians that take on the Witness roll (which Tebow has) DO take on the roll of organizational chaplain. It’s part of being a witness.
It’s not taking a shot, it’s paying attention to the press conference and Tebow. Nobody said anything about hate and judge, that comes straight from you.
Wow. Did you wake up this morning deciding to be a victim? If you’re offended by the “hail Mary” comment, maybe you should read the stats cited, and where you drummed up your outrage over “conversion guy” is beyond me. Maybe you should stop expecting to be offended and start paying attention to what was actually written.

Because I like Tim Tebow, as an athlete and as a person. I never liked the Broncos either but I rooted for them hard core after Tebow started playing for them. This was even when they were playing the Chargers and for the play offs. I will root for the Jets if he is playing and I will make sure I watch all their games just to see him play. I am simply tired of all the irrational anti christian hatred that gets sent his way. Especially when it is disguised as football/skills critique.
I have said it before on other Tebow threads, he came into this last season as a noob third stringer with no pre season and he did far better than anyone had any right to expect. The critique is that he did not do better (which is ridiculous) or that he did it ugly. I (and many others) can see that with a full off season and training he will continue to realize what his haters fear most. My only concern with going to the Jets is that they will not give him the training he deserves.

Other minorities, like gays, feminists and Muslims are treated deftly, but now it seems open season to make fun of Christians for no other reason than their faith.
Call me crazy but singling out a person’s religion for deprecation when it is unrelated to the news is unprofessional journalism, even if it is on the sports page in a satirical piece.
Tebow is known for the “hail marys” and the “conversion” reference is technically accurate but at the same time these references are double entendres that are meant to get a chuckle.
In other words, he may be a mediocre athlete, but way make fun of his religion?
Maybe he is reacting more to the idea of having someone with a clear moral behavior in his midst. Going to be a conscience for him.
You’re putting way too much effort into being offended if you think the hail mary and conversions references are double entendres. They’re standard football terms, they were standard football terms before Tebow was born, and assuming the sport finds a way to survive the concussion crisis they’ll be standard football terms long after he you and I are dead.

You think that since Hail Mary is a common football term, it isn’t intended as a joke.
But it is paired with other anti-Christian allusions that make me think it is part of a theme of making fun of Tebow’s faith.
*”Jeremy Lin Entourage Member” — that is an insult to both Christian athletes. Come on, can’ you see it?
*”Team chaplain” — no player is a team chaplain, so this is directly making fun of his faith. That is an unfair slam.
*Team chaperone” — why would they say this if not trying to be humorous at Tebow’s expense?
These are personal cuts to the guy’s religion I think.
It is repugnant to attack an athlete because of his faith.

There’s nothing insulting about being a Jeremy Lin entourage member. In fact it’s a pretty apt joke, they’re both exciting players, both strong Christians, both now based in New York. In fact I wouldn’t doubt if they do hang out together.
You should inform the Reggie White era Green Bay Packers that no player is team chaplain. No insult there.
Remember who’s on the NYJ, they’ve got a foot fetishist head coach, they’ve got one wide receiver that’s served multiple drug suspensions, they’ve got another wide receiver who shot himself with an illegally concealed weapon while out drinking. The team NEEDS a chaperone.
None of those are personal cuts at Tebow. If there’s a slam at all it’s on Ryan, Holmes and Burress, the guys he’s suggesting get chaperoned.
