Denver traded quarterback Tim Tebow to the NY Jets.
John Elway is bitter and arrogant and I believe that his treatment of Tebow is based on his seething dislike of Tim's very public (so called "in your face") Christianity. If he had kept Tim and explained to him that Peyton is the guy for now and we want you to learn and grow under him, I think Tim would accept that (of course it's speculation on my part). But, it seems like he is trying to rub it in Tim's face by trading him so quickly to a team where there isn't an obvious fit and for a fourth round pick.
I would not take your bet. Manning’s neck injury is serious and I think he plays a game or two and retires rather than risks being paralyzed.
I don’t think Manning lasts long in Denver, and they are scrambling for a new QB.
I will be the guy sipping champagne and laughing at Elway’s renewed misery. I don’t hate the Broncos TAHT much or hate Elway THAT much, but his treatment of Tebow has been classless the entire time. Elway deserves what he gets.
I really like Peyton Manning, but to me, he is crazy to walk back out on a football field.
Even if he does well, it is just a matter of time until injury and age get him.
I heard a sport medicine doc say on ESPN that if Manning gets hit again, he could be eating thru a straw the rest of his life. And he would have “no quality of life.” He is already a millionaire, has a Superbowl ring- why not retire and make your money off the field?
Elway sucks. He looks like he goes into his office, lights a cigar, and plots Tebow’s demise.
I agree. Look at Terry Bradshaw. He was horrible his first couple years in the NFL... yet he turned out to be one the best quarterbacks ever.
Going 7-4 while only facing 2 teams that finished over 500 isn’t that impressive. Having a 47.3 completion percentage isn’t that impressive. Combining for 8 total completed passes in 2 games against the miserable Chiefs isn’t that impressive. That’s the stuff that’s why he got replaced and traded for a Sunday draft pick. And having be mentored by Peyton wouldn’t work at all since they’re exact opposite styles of QB.
Your tale of 6 quarterbacks is looking at college stats. He’s got 11 games of NFL stats, they tell us the NFL evaluators are NOT out of their minds, except for maybe the ones that decided to draft him in the first round. He was clearly a 3rd rounder at best, Denver over paid for him, McDaniels was NOT vindicated, and now he’s gone. Maybe the fresh start in a new city will do him some good.
So now, John Elway is betting that with Peyton in place the Broncos will get closer to Super Bowel next year than Tebow took ‘em. It’s a foolish bet, from the point of view of statistics of probability.
The difference is Bradshaw took over a team that had been horrible for decades at a time when the sport was still not that popular (read lucrative). Tebow took over a team with a fairly recent proud history and a dollar value of close to a billion dollars. The modern more lucrative era of sports has a lot less patience, there’s too much money to be lost in failed seasons.
Even if Tebow doesn’t start...he can transform the culture of an organization....it happened his freshman year at Florida, even though he was the backup to Chris Leak.
I agree. I'm not even into sports or religious, but Tebow got me following what was going. My take is that Elway didn't like the kind of Christian that Tebow is. Elway is the type that probably goes to church at Christmas and Easter, throws some dough around, and doesn't give it much thought for 363 days out of the year. He wanted to be rid of Tebow and jumped at the chance for Manning. I think that kind of thing can only come around and bite you in the butt.
